WW: Happy Wedding Pipit and Agus

Happy wedding, Pipit and Agus

Pipit and Agus, the bride and the groom

Last weekend, we celebrated the wonderful wedding of Pipit, my hubby's youngest sister, and Agus. We went back to Lampung and had a wonderful reunion with our big family and celebrating the unity of two beautiful families. I love it! It's been quite sometimes we didn't have family wedding and everyone got so excited.

Somehow, the wedding was dominated by purple and white, my favorite colors. The seserahan or mahar or the dowry, was also decorated in purple.
I just love them all!

Happy wedding..

My hubby and I took the chance to take some pictures as well.
It was really a wonderful day!

My hubby and I ...

Akad nikah, or the signing of the marriage contract, was conducted solemnly.
Akad Nikah itself is the process when the physical marriage contract is signed, and it obviously includes and involves the bride and the groom, their parents or wali (legitimate guardian), designated witnesses, and penghulu or an officiant. During this ceremony, the officiant, usually represented by an Imam and other community leader, delivered a valuable message and recites parts of the Quran to remind us the beauty of marriage and how best to live together. Once this holy ritual was concluded, we had sungkeman, a tradition where bride and groom asked for forgiveness and approval from parents, the elderlies, brothers and sisters. It was usually filled with joyful tears and happiness. Very touchy.

The reception or walimah was conducted right after akad nikah.  For this, Pipit the bride and Agus the groom wore traditional Lampungnese costumes, complete with Siger, - the headdress, kebaya and golden bebe or chest cover, Tapis - the hand-woven traditional fabrics adorned with gold threads (here she wore the Songket) and accessories like necklaces (yes, she wore many of them :)), bracelets, rings and even keris or traditional dagger for the groom. They look royal indeed! I love Lampungnese wedding.

WW: Lampung Culture and Tapis Festival

Lampung Culture and Tapis Festival was super awesome!

Lampung Culture and Tapis Festival 2018
Ready to participate in the parade..

As one of the series of events being held during Lampung Krakatau Festival 2018, Lampung Culture and Tapis Festival is indeed one of my favourites.

After exploring Anak Krakatau and its surroundings, we were enjoying the lively and colourful Parade and Festival done in the Main Streets of Bandar Lampung.
Lampungnese Governor, together with his wife and officials, also joined the parade and walked along the main streets together with the marching band and the performers from 15 regencies and cities under this province.

Check out some of these photos taken during the Parade.

The 73rd Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence

Happy 73rd Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence!

Posing with Lampungnese traditional attire against the backdrop of our First President, Ir. Soekarno, declared Indonesia's Independence

August 17 is celebrated as the national day for my beloved Indonesia.
Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta, the founding fathers of Indonesia, proclaimed Indonesia's independence on this day after being colonised by the Dutch for around 350 years and by Japanese for around 3.5 years.

After celebrating it in New York City for the last 4 years, we are now celebrating it at home!
In our beloved Indonesia!
We were super excited.

My office invited all of its staff to join the flag-hoisting ceremony starting at 7.15 AM.
My kids already had the similar events a day before as their schools were off on the D-day.

I went to my office for the flag-hoisting ceremony that morning and we were requested to wear Indonesian traditional costumes. As Indonesia is indeed rich in cultural heritages, being a proud home of more than 700 traditional tribes (or may be even more!), we believe that showcasing those traditional costumes during our national day will be a perfect occasion to deepen our love and respect towards our historical roots and independent struggles.

The ceremony started at 7.15 AM and we finished at around 8 AM, as the Minister needed to be at the Palace to join the celebration with the President of the Republic of Indonesia, which started at 10 AM.
The ceremony was conducted in a semi-military arrangement, with flag-hoisting team marching to the flag pole and hoisting Merah Putih, our national flag, while the participants sang Indonesia Raya, our national anthem, together.
It was such a solemn and proud moment, as we all continue fighting for Indonesia's priorities and needs, wherever we are.

As you probably know very well, I chose to wear the wedding attire of Lampung, where I was born and raised.

Proklamasi....

You don't know how proud I was wearing the almost-3-kg Siger or the traditional crown as well as the complete set of the costume which includes 2-kg Tapis Lampung or the hand-woven traditional fabrics from golden threads.
It was indeed a great experience, considering that it was a hot and humid morning :).

The flag-raising ceremony is taken place in so many parts of Indonesia as well as the representatives of Indonesia all over the world. It is usually followed by Pesta Rakyat or people's party, packed with sports and fun contests as well as endless entertainment. While we were in NYC, we never missed the ceremony as well as the Street Festival conducted in the following weeks.

Long story short, the ceremony in my Office in Jakarta was solemnly done and afterwords, we had fun photo sessions here and there, as always.
I even took the photo near the mascots of Asian Games 2018, Bhin Bhin, Atung and Kaka.

Enjoy some pictures I took with my phone during the ceremony and once again,

HAPPY 73RD ANNIVERSARY, INDONESIA

Maju terus, Indonesiaku tercinta

Tapis and Songket at Indonesian Diplomatic Reception

The harmonious melody from kolintang, one of Indonesian tradisional musical instruments, filled the UN Delegates Dining Room on the 4th floor of the UN Headquarters in New York.

Angin Mamiri, one of the traditional songs from Sulawesi, welcomed and serenaded the guests that night.

One by one, Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, Ambassadors, and other distinguished guests joined us that night for our national day reception.

Yup, we had our annual reception for the 71st anniversary of the Indonesia's independence on the third week of September.

Hosted by H.E. Retno L.P. Marsudi, our Minister for Foreign Affairs, this annual event was convened on the margins of the High Level Week of   UN General Assembly 71st Session. Although the independence day was celebrated on August 17, but here in New York City we held the reception during the September session on the UN GA in order to welcome more dignitaries and VVIPs.

But this year is super special indeed.

Why?

Because we have H.E. Jusuf Kalla, the Vice President of Indonesia and Madame Mufidah Kalla, his spouse, as our guests of honor.

Moreover, we also have the official launch of the campaign for Indonesia's candidature for the Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council for 2019-2020.

We also held the reception on the 4th floor of the UN Headquarters, slightly different from the usual venue of the meeting hall at our Permanent Mission.

Hours before the reception, my colleagues and I were rushingly preparing the UN Delegates Dining Room.
As always, we bring the taste of Indonesia to the UN
Tapis and songket were chosen as the main traditional fabrics we used for decoration that night. We mixed it with tenun Troso and loro blonyo, the famous Javanese couple in wooden form.

We adorned the room with more songket, tapis and tenun all over the place.
We were surely having fun decorating the room with Tapis and Songket at Indonesian Diplomatic Reception.
Welcoming board, bar table, guest book corner, columns, souvenir bags corner.
Simply everywhere :).
Colorful Sundanese paper umbrella also brighten up the room.

We used many gawangan, the tradional wooden fabric holder, to showcase those variety of songket, tapis and tenun being displayed.

Tapis from Lampung, adorning one of the corners of the room

As for me, I was proudly wearing my Tapis Lampung in gold and black, coupled with france lace kebaya in turquoise and gold.

Then around 6.30, guests were arriving.
Minister Retno, adorned in black kebaya top and black-and-white batik skirt, welcomed our guests, while being accompanied by H.E. Dian Triansyah Djani, our Ambassador/Permanent Representative.

Minister Retno and Ambassador Djani welcoming guests

At 7.15, after the arrival of our Guests of Honor, H,E, Mr, Jusuf Kalla and his spouse, Minister Retno opened the reception with short remarks. She officially launched the campaign for Indonesia's candidature for the UN Security Council Non-Permanent Member year 2019-2020 as well. Our Vice President stroke the gong  as the symbol of that official launch. We sincerely hope we have all the supports from our fellow friends and states.

And the night continued with happy chats and friendly gathering amidst
good food and some traditional performances. Various choices of hot and cold hors d'oeuvre as well as Asian corner with sate, Mongolian beef and dumplings were served.

The food for that night..Various hors d'ouvre for our guests

For sure, we have some Indonesian traditional performances for our distinguished guests, gracefully performed by Saung Budaya, a special group preserving Indonesian traditional dances and cultural performances based in New York City. Tari Piring from West Sumatera and Tari Bajidor Kahot from West Java got a great applause from our guests that night.

Tari Piring, Bajidor kahot and Kolintang from Indonesia

Then Pingkan Indonesia, a kolintang group from New Jersey, also performed some numbers of Indonesian songs and cotton field.

I helped presenting those dances and kolintang performance as the MC that night :).
Something that I haven't been doing for quite some times but always happy to do so.

We surely were blessed with the presence of many friends and distinguished guests that night. It was packed and looked like everyone had a great time. Many of the guests asked about the performances as well as Tapis and songket being displayed that night

We closed the night with some photo sessions and wefie.
It was a great night indeed.

Have you been to a diplomatic reception before?
