Wishing all my sisters and brothers who celebrate a wonderful Eid Al Adha.
Eid Al Adha Mubarak!
This is the first celebration of Eid Al Adha that my family and I have in Wellington. We were lucky because we have the celebration of the Eid at our office, the Embassy of Indonesia in Wellington.
We started the praying session quite early at 8 AM and continued with breakfast together with Soto Ayam or the Indonesian chicken soup as the main menu. We also have potluck so various menus we also available. I brought perkedel kentang or potato fritters for this celebration. We had corn fritters, quiche, nuggets and some desserts like fruit pudding, cookies and cakes as well. It was a merry celebration indeed.
The khotbah or the sermont was given by one of our local staff, Ustadz Agam Jaya. He shared the story of qurban or the sacrifice as well as about Hajj or the pilgrimage. It was such a moving story and I sincerely hope my family and I can come and visit Makkah and Madinah for our holy pilgrimage. Ameeen.
We did our qurban in Indonesia, particularly in Lampung, our hometown. Alhamdulillah together with the big family, we can have the cow this year.
As you might know, the values celebrated during Eid al Adha is the beauty of sharing with those who are less fortunate than us and ikhlas, or sincere, sacrificing or letting go the things we love for our love to Allah SWT, the Almighty. Just like the story of Abraham and Ismail. Sometimes, this simple principle is the hardest in its implementation and that’s why we are reminded every year in this beautiful celebration.
After the prayer and breakfast, we took pictures together and called it a day.
Hope we all always remember the beauty of sharing with others and our love to Our Creator.
Happy Eid Al Adha!
