Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World and Friends

 Welcome back! 

I hope all is well as we enjoy October. Back in NYC, October is one of our favorite months in a year as we celebrate autumn and all its wonderful ambience. Here in Wellington, spring is sprouting out and I love to see all those beautiful flowers here and there.

This October is quite colorful for us. After exploring  Rotorua and the northern part of the North Island in Aotearoa, we drove to Auckland and watched World Rally Championship or WRC, for Rally New Zealand. My hubby and my son got super excited to see their first WRC session in New Zealand. We stayed at Crown Plaza Auckland in the CBD and drove to the Brookby farm to reach Jack's Ridge stage. It was raining and very muddy but my hubby and my son were super thrilled and excited to see the WRC - Repco NZ Rally. I guess the the roaring sound from those mufflers, the speed, the flying mud and the distinct smell from the burning oil are really something.

We only passed the Sky Tower in Auckland and walked around the town hall in the morning as it was raining as well. Then the following day we drove back to Wellington again. Another 8.5 hours on the road but it was quite an experience indeed. Will share more on this.

Still in October, I was lucky enough to get the chance to enjoy WOW - World of WearableArt, a world-class fashion and entertainment event held in Wellington. 

We got the ticket for the Award Nite so it was special and surprising as well, as we had Prime Minister Jacinda Arden joining the runway and wore one of the designs from New Zealand designers. Will share more on that as well.

WW: Wellington Royal Botanic Garden in spring

 Wellington looks more and more colorful these days as spring is in the air.

Wellington Royal Botanic Garden in spring is certainly inviting. I managed to enjoy my lunch break here twice during these days. Although Wellington is still frequently dotted with heavy rain and freezing wind, we sometimes were blessed with warm afternoon.

So, I took the liberty to walk from the office as it was only a 10 minute walk. We grabbed our lunches and sit on the benches there, enjoying the fresh air, blue sky and tulips. It was very refreshing. 

 

Many people enjoying the Royal Botanic Garden as well as it has jogging tracks, steps, sound shells, bush walk, pond and more.  It was really a lovely gem in the middle of the city. Some of the tulips were already fallen because of the rain but I still enjoy the garden.

ASEAN Ladies Circle Meeting in Wellington

Welcome back and allow me to share about ASEAN Ladies Circle meeting in Wellington. 

As you know, ASEAN is the regional organization comprises 10 (ten) Member States in South East Asia, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. ASEAN is not only an organization but also a community bound by similar virtues, commitment and shared vision. It continues to thrive through various challenges and dynamics at the region as well as in the world. 

Well, I am not going to dwell on the substantive part of ASEAN and its priorities but for us, Indonesia, ASEAN is the bed rock and wherever I am posted, there will always be an ASEAN Committee in those accredited country. After Geneva and New York, Wellington is no exception. Here we have ASEAN Committee in Wellington or ACW.

 

Besides ACW, we also have ASEAN Ladies Circle or ALC. The members of the ALC are the ladies from the missions of ASEAN Member States in Wellington as well as ladies from ASEAN countries who reside in Wellington and other cities in New Zealand.

Every 3 month, we have a meeting and the last one we had was hosted by the Thailand Embassy. We met and learnt how to make Luk Chup, a lovely dessert made of grounded mung beans, shaped in many cute forms and dipped in gelatine. 

It tastes good and looks cute as well. It certainly was fun learning how to do it!

It's a pot luck gathering so each ASEAN missions bring one main dish and one dessert. This time, we brought batagor or Indonesian tofu and fish cake with peanut sauce as well as lapis legit or layer cake. Others brought delicious food as well and we certainly had fun enjoying the food and the desserts.

The meeting went well and next time we will meet will be in October.

Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends

Welcome back and how I hope everyone is well.

In our knack of the wood, things have been a bit unwell. My kids got COVID-19 and 4 days after, then my hubby and I caught it too. Yes, COVID-19 is still here!

Well, for Bo et Obi, this will be their first time. As for me, this will be my third time, after 2 episodes of Delta infection in Jakarta, and the second time for my hubby after Delta in Jakarta as well. Both my hubby and I already got the booster in Wellington New Zealand back in February 2022, while both my kids already got the two doses of vaccinations. Bo got them in Jakarta while Obi got them in Wellington with Pfizer. 

Apparently, the combination of horrible cold weather (Wellington has been so depressing in the last 4 weeks in terms of weather), too many back - to - back activities and sick people everywhere proves to be condition conducive for the spread of COVID-19 in my household. I lost track already on which variant the virus that hit us but I have to admit that it was way easier and 'lighter' in terms of the symptoms compared to Delta but it is still annoying.

According to New Zealand rules, we have to isolate for 7 days and that's what we have been doing so far.  Afterwards, at day 7 we need to take another test and we can finish the isolation when the test is negative and when the symptoms are clear, whichever comes first. Otherwise, we have to stay at home until we are fit enough to go out again. This weekend, my kids can get out of the isolation while my hubby and I will stay until next Tuesday. Hopefully the next test we are taking will be resulting negative.

Meanwhile, in terms of works, I have many events waiting. So, while isolating, drafts and reports are accompanying me as well. Many of us work from home for a week or as needed. Hopefully everyone will be well soon and stay healthy onwards.
