WW: Hatupatu Scenic Lookout, Lake Rotorua, New Zealand

Hatupatu Scenic Lookout, Rotorua, New Zealand

Hi everyone..

Hope all is well and I am enjoying the beautiful weather in Wellington!
This time, I would like to share the photos of our recent trip to Rororua, one of the most favorite destination in Aotearoa, New Zealand. it is famous for its geothermal bath, amazing landscape and fun outdoor activity centers.

Let's stop by at Hatupatu Scenic Lookout, Rotorua, New Zealand. Here we can enjoy the calming scenery of Lake Rotorua. As you can see, the lake is unique with two distinct colors because it is sulphuric. It comes with distinct aroma as well but it's still manageable, at least for me.

We also stopped by at Rotorua Museum. The architecture is so beautiful but it is temporarily closed for strengthening and renovation.

At Hatupatu Scenic Lookout, Rotorua, we can also see the Lakeland Queen Cruise Boat, which I guess is no longer operating, at least for now. Here are some photos we took around the area and will be more than happy to get back to you with more details. Till then, take care!

Cherry Blossoms at Aston Norwood Garden, Upper Hutt, Wellington

Spring is in the air!

Although we still have some freezing, wet days here in Wellington, more sunshine is here. We really love to see these beautiful days and see more greens and colors from blooming flowers.

So, in one of the warm, balmy Saturday,, we decided to go and see the cherry blossoms at Aston Norwood Garden, Upper Hutt, Wellington

It was 40 minutes drive from Wellington to this beautiful garden. It's a beautiful place and although it was quite packed with visitors, the garden is still spacious for everyone. For sure, we enjoyed our walk in the garden.

As you can see, what a  lovely garden to enjoy cherry blossom!

It was a bit packed as anticipated but yet ,the garden is spacious and it can certainly accommodate many visitors. I also love the fact that the patch is clear and well maintained so it's easy for us to walk from one point to another.

The ticket is NZD 10 per person, kids under 12 is still free if I'm not mistaken. For the four of us, we only pay NZD 30.

I saw some disabled persons visiting the garden as well and there are a few areas which are accessible. But there are hills and stairs as well. Toilets are available. You can also buy some flowers, trees and fruit saplings here.

WW: Cable Top Cafe at Kelburn, Wellington

We have been enjoying some good, sunny days lately here in windy Welly.
Well, spring should be around the corner although I have to admit that September is here and still we have freezing days.

When the weather is friendly, I really enjoy strolling around the city or Kelburn area, near my office. We have the Cable Car here and there's a cafe too called Cable Top. When time and work load permit, we sometimes walk up and have a quick breakfast here in the cafe.

It is really a good walk up to the hilly street to reach this cafe. The last time I came here with some friends, we had a good walk from the office and it took us around 10 minutes to reach the Cable Top eatery.

One of the brunch time we had here, I ordered their signature vegan shake. Well, shake with no milk and they put Feijoa, a unique fruit from New Zealand. Mixed with other fresh fruits, it's very filling indeed.

the shake

In addition to that, we also ordered the cheese scone. I really love it as it's very creamy.

If you want, you are more than welcomed to order gelato or ice cream and cookies as well pastries as they also serve many delicious flavours for that.

Well, all in all, I really enjoy this place and happy to go back here again next time.

WW: Les Miserables in Wellington

How I miss Broadway!

One of the things that I miss the most from NYC is their all-year-round entertainment, particularly Broadway. Well, at least before COVID-19 pandemic.. and now, as it starts kicking back after the pandemic is a bit manageable.

I remember vividly those musicals and plays my family, my dearest friends and I watched in Broadways. Kinky Boots, the Rain, Beautiful, On Your Feet, Phantom of the Opera, Sponge Bob, the Book of Mormon, Dear Evan Hansen, Jersey Boys, Chicago  and more..

So when I heard that St. James Theather in Wellington was reopening after years of renovation and series of plays and musicals will be showcased, I directly hunt for the tickets. Together with Stella, my colleague at the office, we got the tickets for Les Miserables. Super excited indeed!

welcome to St. James Theater

Les Miserables is indeed a famous play that has been performed in many corners of the world. Perhaps you are already familiar with the stories of Jean Valjean, Fantine, Cossette,Marius, Eponine,  Javert and even the hillarious crooks, the Thenardiers. We even have the last Hollywood version of it starred by Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.

The show was packed and St. James Theater looks beautiful indeed. We cozily sit for 3 hours plus intermission and the play was amazing. The production troupe, which is mostly based in Aotearoa, New Zealand, is amazing! I really enjoyed the played and the songs, including the hits I had a dream.

The stage..

Well, all in all I had a wonderful night and I hope I can soon go back for more performance here. Here are some photos showing you the lovely theater.

Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends

I hope everyone is well and sound, wherever you are.

Windy Welly is still up to its name, cold and freezing thanks to the cold wind coming from the Pacific. I have been taking the public transportation for the last couple of weeks and we certainly embrace the cold wind and sometimes drizzles as well in the morning.

Bo's school bus

Speaking of public transport in Welly, we usually get our bus at 7.50 in the morning. it will take us to the Karori Mall, so that we can transfer to Bus No. 2 or 18 which will take me and Obi to office and her school. Bo will stop in a different bus stop so that he can catch his school bus taking him to Wellington College. It was quite a journey as we have to ensure that the bus does come on time or otherwise we will miss the connection. Sometimes we ordered Uber as well but usually it will be tricky in the morning as it takes a while for them to reach us up on the hills in Karori. Well, that's the price we have to pay for amazing view at home.

The public transportation in Wellington is okay but we have issues with low numbers of drivers and COVID-19 makes it worst. There are times when some services were heavily reduced or even cancelled and that makes it super difficult for those depending on public transportation. Online taxi or taxi is always expensive, so it will only be the last resort.  Hopefully we will have better and better services in the upcoming days.

Meanwhile, August is here and this is practically my month! Birthday is coming and for sure I hope we can have something nice and special when it comes. I really miss my munchkin and I know he will join us in Wellington in sya Allah.

Now, it's time for Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends. Are you ready? join us then..
