So, let's see what's on the menu! For sure, they serve traditional Sundanese (tribe from West Java, Indonesia) cuisine which is quite famous in Indonesia. They have the package called Liwet (for 2 or 3 people) and a la carte menu as well. Nasi Liwet is the specially prepared steamed rice, cooked with a mixed of traditional herbs like lemon grass, bay leaves and salted fish. The complete package also include ayam goreng basah - fried chicken with traditional spices; tahu and tempe goreng; cimplung or the potato fritters, sambel dadak and sambel hejo - the famous chili sauce;and peda bakar or the grilled salted fish.
You can also have them a la carte, per item or per portion. Some additional menus like vegetable sautée with tauge and kangkung as well. Our favorite is also the fish menu, different kind of gurame, or the carp fish. They do excellent grilled or fried fish on the spot. The package for 2 persons costs you Rp 75.000,- , while the package for 3 persons is Rp 120.000,-. Complete information on the menu and its prices can be checked at http://sambelhejosambeldadak.com . The outlet that we visited is the one in Rawamangun. Here are some photos of the menu we enjoy in this place.
Cimplung and sweet corn fritters
the famous sambal dadak
tumis tauge
rendang mengkol, anyone
fried tempe and tofu
Sambal hejo or the green chili
Don't forget to check my video at YouTube channel for more stories and photos of those delicious menu plus lovely vintage setting.
And that's not all folks. Besides those yummy food, they also have free vintage photo booth, complete with all the properties and costumes. We definitely love it! The setting is like a traditional hub in the middle of the rice field, complete with paddy, vintage utensils, and more. Check it out...we had so much fun taking those pictures.
Mbo Jamu Obi :)
Now you know why we love this place sooo much. If you get a chance to come and visit, here's the complete address. SHSD Sambel Hejo Sambel Dadak Rawamangun Jl. Cipinang Baru Utara no.35 RT.9/RW.3, Cipinang, Kec Pulo Gadung, Jakarta Timur, Jakarta 13240
Siapa yang suka jajan di sini? I do! Indonesia has been well-known for its amazing culinary. Traditional food as well as beverages in Indonesia vary and can be pretty much found in every corner of this country. Encompassing more than 17 thousands islands (yup, you read it correctly, more than 17.000 islands), different cultural background, geographical situation and specific vegetation as well as natural resources from that particular area.
It can be a bit overwhelming as the choices are more than abundant! In Lampung, my home, for example. We have Pindang Patin, Pempek or fish cake with sweet sour sauce or cuka, sambal seruit, tempoyak, keripik pisang, kue engkak, segubal, and so many more. Not to mention popular food like Bakso Sony, Pempek 123, siomay Edy, kripik pisang Suseno and Mie Lampung. I just realize I can't stop listing all those yummy food. Well, considering this foodie culture of Indonesians, Kecap Bango or one of the leading manufactures of the sweet soy sauce, takes this opportunity to gather famous street food vendors from different corners of Indonesia in one big festival. Festival Jajanan Bango 2019 The Festival was held in the parking lot of Squash Field, Bung Karno Sports Complex, Jakarta, from 15 - 17 March 2019.
In English, perhaps the best way of translating Jajajan is snacks, but usually we buy our jajanan in our favorite street food vendors or small corners in particular areas, traditional markets or malls. Most of the time, the places are way scattered here and there, even located in different provinces.
Then in this Festival, we have them all coming for us! Yaaaay! There are 83 vendors joining the event so you can imagine how delicious our trip here! The field was I showed the complete list of the vendors here in my YouTube video.

That's A LOT of yummy food!
I have to say I have tried at least a half of them at different point of time. Some of those famous food vendors are located near my house in Rawamangun, Jakarta.
But some of them are not even in Jakarta!
Welcome to FJB 2019
We came on Sunday, the last day of the Festival and for sure it was already packed since the morning when they started at 11 AM.
We arrived at 12. 15 as we needed to look for a parking spot, which proved to be a big problem for us.
Nevertheless, after lining up and registering ourselves online for the free entry, we finally got inside. We went to special tent to see short stories about Kecap Bango and its contribution to the preservation of Indonesia's traditional culinary. For sure, Kecap Bango has been there for generations and my family loves it!.
After the tens, we finally arrived to the open area where the Festival was held and this is what we had!
FOOD COMA!
LOL.
As it was packed and everyone was pretty much craving for what they love, the line was super long! It was quite a disadvantage for us as it was hot, we were hungry, and we lined up for quite sometimes. But well, it was a special festival with some nostalgic food that I didn't want to miss so we did line up in many of those spots. I only managed to queue at 6 vendors and that took me around 1.5 hours only to line up and get my food ready.
The main stage in the center.
I hope next Festival they will use better time management in order to avoid such long queues everywhere. Since I didn't get empty seats either, we took away most of the food and enjoyed them at home. Oh ya...Sariwangi , our famous Indonesian tea, was also the official tea of this Festival. And when you bought food at 5 or 10 booths, got the stamps for each booth and you could change that with free goodies as well!
Here are some of the photos I took during the festival. Wanna know what food I managed to buy and try? Here we go..
First I lined up at Mie Aceh Seulawahand bought a pack of delicious and spicy Mie Aceh.
Mie Aceh Seulawah
I like it because it comes with kerupuk and emping, as well as onion and pickles, which make it special.
It's sooo good and spicy! Love it!
Then we lined up at Sate Padang Ajo Ramon.
The original Sate Padang Ajo Ramon
Very famous Padangnese Satay and it's super special because the sauce is specially made of beef broth, Indonesian traditional mixed spices, and rice flour. I wrote the recipe of Sate Padang and tried making it in NYC as well! Check it out here Sate Padang - Padangnese Satay
More food we got here can be seen from these photos as well. Like Sate dan Tongseng Pak H. Budi Asli Solo!
Can you imagine the traditional Tongseng, or spicy beef stew, cooked traditionally using the charcoal? Even the smell is certainly different. More delicious!
And as they used special diner plates from Kecap Bango, we saw many dishes here and there. The clean ones and the dirty ones as well.
This is before...
This is after...
All in all, I love the Festival and I guess I will be happy to come back next year.
There are many vendors which had long queues that I didn't manage to try.
Like this Sate Maranggi, for example. Although I have tried the original ones years ago, I feel like trying it again here.
Some risoles, bakso and ketimus for you to try!
We need to come earlier and obviously more prepared as well.
My kids were complaining because they were tired after our morning jogging before coming down here.
And for sure, I have more YouTube videos from this festival :). Check this one out!
So, what do you think about the festival? Do you like coming and joining a food festival like this? Any particular Indonesian food that you enjoy? See you at Festival Jajanan Bango 2020!
March is marching out as April is waiting around the corner.
March has been fun and busy for us, filled with culinary experiences, car free day, and more.
Festival Jajanan Bango 2019
I have been venturing in Festival Jajanan Bango 2019, a 2-day event held by Bango, one of Indonesian leading brands for sweet soy sauce, where many famous and popular Indonesian street food vendors and restaurants were gathered together in one place. We went here with my brother and my sister-in-law.
Sate Padang!
It was packed indeed! And many of the food sold here are people's favorite! No wonder we had long lines here and there.
Car Free Day 2019
Before that, we enjoyed Car Free Day in Sudirman - Senayan Area and had fun walking and jogging around this place.
