WW: Visiting Napier, New Zealand - the Art Deco Haven

Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

Let's continue our trip around New Zealand!

This time, I have the opportunity to enjoy Napier, Hastings and Hawke's Bay, three lovely cities in the region of Hawke's Bay, at the North Island.

The Daily Telegraph Office

It takes us around 5 hours drive from Wellington to reach this area. We passed Palmerston North and the wind farm of  Te Apiti. We saw lots of wind turbines and stopped for a while.

Welcome to Te Apiti Wind Farm

We went through this wonderful, quaint city in the coastal area of Hawke’s Bay, famous for its rich soil, wonderful beaches and agriculture fresh produce. Plus unique art deco dominating architectures in many parts of the city. Truly a lovely place to visit.

We have series of meetings with Indonesian community here who will be hosting Batik workshop and fashion show in April. We briefly visited the Creative Art Napier which will be the venue of the workshop. We had dinner at Restaurant Indonesia, one of the oldest restaurant in town, with homey decoration and fantastic, authentic Indonesian food. After a while, I enjoyed nasi bakar komplit, with sayur asem, ayam goreng, ikan jambal roti and sambal, plus pepes kakap and wedang ronde. Heaven!

beautiful snapper pepes! Super yum...

We also met the Mayor as well as the local business. Although we haven’t really got time to explore the city and its lovely corners, but we managed to stop here and there. We got a tour in the District Council and the Opera House as well. I really have to share more in details in the next posts!

For now, here are some photos we took along the way. Enjoy!

Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends

Hello everyone..

I hope March has been treating you good. And I hope it’s not too late to say Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing ladies out there!

We are still witnessing the spiking numbers of Omicron case here in New Zealand. We already had rapid antigen test twice at the office and thank God, Alhamdulillaaaah, we had negative results. Nevertheless, we still work from the office except for those who are showing some symptoms. The daughter is still having her classes off line, while my son has 2 offline classes only on Wednesday and Friday. Well, hopefully things will be improving soon.

Wellington continues to be in a good mood as we have some beautiful days this week. Lots of sunshine and that means our ourdoorsy activities can be done cautiously by following health protocol. I hope I can share

Now...... We are happy to have you join us each week and hope you enjoy our features to inspire you with new ideas. WW: Putangirua Pinnacles Reserve, Wairarapa

Here comes another trip to one of the movie sets of my favorite movies of all times, the Lord of the Rings

After Rivendell in Kaitoke Regional Park, the set for the house of the elves in LoTR was built for the movie, now we are looking at the place where one of the segments of  the final trilogy, Return of the King, were made.

Welcome to  Putangirua Pinnacles Reserve, Wairarapa

Welcome to the Putangirua Pinnacles Reserves, or ‘the Path of the Death’ as the they call it. I have to admit that the name is rather terrifying but it matches with the journey taken by the Army of the Death from Moldor. Oh, you really need to see the movie again and admire those amazing details.

The pinnacles are indeed unique. It looks like rock towers carved distinctly, nothing similar to one another. Surrounded by loose rocks and gravels in dominant grey, this place can look so eery. I guess that is why it had been chosen as the location for the path of the death.

Let’s see how it looks like and I will tell you more about this place.

Putangirua Pinnacles Scenic Reserve, Wairarapa
really matches what I have in mind about Moldor

We choose the stream way to reach this spot instead of climbing up for the lookout. From Google Maps, I can see that the aerial photos taken from the lookout is amazing. But we were planning to visit the Cape Palliser Lighthouse right after this place so we saved our energy.

Putangirua Pinnacles Scenic Reserve, Wairarapa
happy me..

Taking the stream way, it was a beautiful, sandy path with streams and river along the way. Rows of pampass grass, the tall graceful grass you will definitely love to take as the background of your photos, as well as other indigenous flowers along the path make the hike enjoyable.

such an amazing area... many beautiful photo spots too

By the time we reached the area, we took photos together and admired this unique, natural landscape. For sure, we made another memorable print there. Hope we can have more coming in the future.

Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie World and Friends

one beautiful day in Wellington

February continues and I have to admit that I am feeling a bit tired with the work load we have lately. Well, nothing new though. I have been dealing with more urgent issues previously so I am kind of managing the time and concentration in the office and at home. Well, hanging there, Indah, you'll nail it!

Meanwhile, in New Zealand, particularly in Wellington, we have the ongoing protest regarding the anti-government vaccine mandates. We have hundreds of people gather in from of the parliament in Wellington, protesting about this. They have stayed for about 17 days, which is one of the longest mass demonstrations held here. It gets violent lately with classes with police happened several times. It has been very distressful for many, especially those who are attending their offices, schools or business around the area.

The noises, the harassment (some protesters yelled at people passing by and asked them to open their masks and even spitted and threw things), the fear of infection and many more make us hope that this issue is properly handled. I am confident that the Government will do what it takes to put everything back to normal again.

On a brighter note, my new Ambassador, H.E. Fientje Maritje Suebu, has presented her Letter of Credence to the Governor - General of New Zealand, H.E. The Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro at her beautiful residence on 22nd of February 2022.

Her Excellency delivered her remarks

I was honored and priviledge to join Her Excellency entourage during this special day, together with my colleague from protocol division and the defence Attache. It was a wonderful and historical day indeed.
