Bo's Winter Concert

Have I told you before that Bo joined the school band and played trombone ;)?

Ahaaa.. Trombone it is :).

It all started last fall when Bo's music class offered any kids who were interested to join a band or a chorus. Bo chose the band. And when he came home with the permission slip, he told us that he wanted to play trombone. The other choices were flute, clarinet, alto sax, and trumpet. Seruuuu ya :) #langsungterbayangfullband #NewOrleansmodeon

Well, he played recorder in the 3rd grade and Udi, my hubby, has introduced him to guitar as well. But trombone? Never crossed our minds :).

pilih yang manaaa ayoo :)

Singkat cerita, perjalanan musik Bo pun dimulai.

We went to Laconia Music in for renting the trombone and as always, I always love to see all those musical instruments.

I just to see them all..

Orang alat musiknya aja hampir seukuran Bo tingginya. Tapi tentu saja, I have faith in Bo for sure.

Dan ternyata tidak mudah memainkannya ;).
It is definitely note that easy at all to play it. I tried it several times, with the instructions from Bo, but still not succeeded. Fail..again and again. It is not just blowing it like when we play a recorder, but you have to do it with a slow, smooth air. Whatever that means LoL :).

But Bo manages to play it. And I guess he nails it ;p.
They practice twice a week during school time, particularly in the preparation of the concert.

Bo and his trombone :)

So, after 2 months of exercise, using Standard of Excellence 1, the school band held its winter concert.

let the concert begin :)

I am soooo overwhelmed to see them up there. And my eyes watered :).
Maaf kalau mama Bo et Obi jadi cengeng yaaaa ;p #ambiltissue #sedotingus

bravoooo Bo :)

Baguuuus lhooo..

So, all in all, konser musim dingin kali ini seru sekaligus membanggakan.
Have you watch the school concert like this as well?

Cheese and veggie Bitterballen

Heloooo everyone ..

How is your holiday?
I hope everyone isenjoying one's break in this festive month. Spending lovely time with family and friends, doing all the things you love :).

We have some friends coming at the end of this year and it was great meeting up with them after quite some times. After exploring NYC in its drizzling Christmas day, we decided to sit down at home and just relax.

And time for delicious munchies :).
Waktunya untuk  menikmati camilan ringan tapi enaaaak :)

I have been trying to use more veggies in my cooking, especially for the kids. Then with a little mixing here and there, I managed to make veggie and cheese Bitterballen. Yummy and easy for everyone to enjoy.

Ternyata meskipun isinya sayuran namun rasanya enak jugaaa :).

So, let's cook..

Here are the ingredients:

Mixed veggies - 2 cups. I used carrots, corns, green peas and green beans. You're indeed welcomed to use other favorite veggies of yours :)
Onion - a half, thinly sliced
Flour - approximately 2 cups or as needed
Milk - 1 cup
Cheese - I used a mixture of grated edam, gruyere and parmesan
Eggs - 2, beaten
Breadcrumbs
Vegetable oil
Salt and pepper
Nutmeg powder - if desired.

How to cook:

Put the onion in the hot pan and cook it together with mixed veggies.
Once it's ready, pour the milk as well as salt, pepper and nutmeg powder, then slowly add the flour and cheese, little by little until everything is well mixed and no longer sticky.
Then shape the mixture into small balls, dip them into beaten eggs then roll them in a plate of breadcrumbs. You can do that twice or three times until the layers get thicker.
Deep fry it until golden brown and you can enjoy cheese and veggie bitterballen with mustard, mayo, or hot sauce. I even eat it with fresh chili :).

Cara memasaknya gampaaang bangeeet.

See.. I guess it's pretty easy for everyone to try it at home and I hope you enjoy it as much as we do :).

Happy cooking...

Alice in Wonderland

"Who in the world am I? Aah... That's the great puzzle"..
White Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland...

We just spent our Friday afternoon at Central Park.
In the warmest day on December 25 over the last century... That's what they've been saying all over the news.

So as we have no white Christmas here in the Big Apple, but rather a warm day, we decided to pay a visit to this huge park in the middle of NYC. It was a bit drizzling by the way, but relatively warm.

drizzling..yet clear blue sky :)

Stretching over from the 59th Street to 110th Street, we certainly have a lot to explore here. But this time, we are coming back to meet Alice :).

Meet Alice...

Yuuup..
Alice in Wonderland.
Meet Alice, comfortably sitting on top of a giant mushroom amidst tall trees and blue sky above her.

Near the Conservatory Water at the eastern part of Central Park, stand the bronze sculpture of Alice and her famous friends from this impeccable story, Alice in Wonderland. Joining the big family of famous sculptures and statues in Central Park since 1959, Alice in Wonderland is a gift to all children in New York City thanks to the generosity of Mr. George Delacorte. We went there last year as well and had fun indeed.

back in 2014 :)

I guess many of you are familiar with Alice, right.
This adventurous girl is really having the time of her life experiencing the weirdest yet extraordinary adventures with Mr. White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, Humpty Dumpty and Queen Heart in the Wonderland. And it all started down the rabbit hole :).

I myself have watched several versions of this timeless story brilliantly written by Lewis Carroll in the movies. Smithen by those wild imaginations, I also collect the book, including the sequel, Through the looking glass.  Perhaps that's why I always enjoy visiting its statues in Central Park. Including my kids...

look who's having fuuun :)

We have friends coming over from Ottawa and the kids are enjoying their winter break already. And surely running around freely, climbing rocks as well Alice and friends' statues suit them fine. Obi, my daughter, and Zayyan, Dinie's son,-our dearest friend from Ottawa, couldn't stop giggling looking at Mr. Rabbit's pocket watch and the wide grin of the Madhatter, while at the same time sliding down the magic mushroom just to climb it up again.

Aaah..what fun :)

Do you like Alice in Wonderland, too?
Who's your favorite character?

Enjoy the blue sky from different part of the world and join us on Skywatch Friday

Transiting in Istanbul (again)

I recently had a business trip to Geneve, Switzerland, and again, I deliberately choose Istanbul for my transit.

I know, I have been visiting this city numerous time but I have to admit that I can't stop coming back to this cradle of civilization.

Perhaps, this is my 9th time transiting in Istanbul and I gotta to admit always enjoy it :).

For sure there are a lot of interesting places to see and to explore.
Variety of food to taste and buy plus lovely handicrafts to bring home :).
Okay, call me lame but speaking about handicrafts, before deciding to transit in Istanbul, I broke one of my purple hand-made Turkish bowl at home. Somehow I immediately decided to stop again in this city and  put it on top of my list to get some  and bring it back to NYC. What a mission, right :).

Misinya mencari mangkok pengganti :).

a glimpse of my transit in Istanbul

So I started the journey quite early in the morning.
Arriving at Istanbul at 6.30, I was out on the subway at 7.15.
Destination: Sultanahmet historical area. I knew this place quite well and the trip downtown with subway and metro is very easy.

Always love the colorful mosaics :)

By the time I came out of the arrival hall, I directly went to the money changer to get some Turkish Lira. 1 USD was about 2.9 TL so it wasn't that bad. I brought some TL notes and coins from my previous trip but obviously it won't be enough :). Not with some shoppings I have in mind.

Then, still in the airport, I went down to the basement and bought jetons, the special coins you would need for using public transport, from the machine. From the airport to Sultanahmet area, I will need 2 jetons. But considering that I would stop in Taksim, I would need some extra. So I got 6 jetons for safety.

Going down, the subway heading to Zeytinburnu, where I would need to stop and take tram heading to Sultanahmet, was already waiting. 15 minutes after, I was already in Zeytinburnu and took the tram for another 20 minutes ride to Sultanahmet. It was very crowded, as many students and workers were taking the tram as well.

cloudy morning
Then I was just heading directly to the Blue Mosque.
Having my morning Dhuha prayer there, admiring the golden, elaborated dome ...
As I said previously, I'll never get tired of enjoying this place whenever I got the chance.
Keep coming back for more to kneel and speak with my Creator under that magnificent dome. The peaceful feeling is priceless.

Cerita lengkap tentang Masjid indah ini pernah saya tulis dalam a little note on Istanbul: Trail of civilization #2 Blue Mosque (cntd).

never get tired of it :)
Setelah itu, saya kemana lagi ya?
Transiting in Istanbul (again) makes me think of more places to explore.

Bersambung lagi niiiih ceritanya :)
To be continued

How about this dress, mama..

How about this dress, Mama...
"How about this dress, mama?"

Finally, ikat rambut atau pita jika hari itu dia ingin rambutnya diikat or a little button from her favorite cartoons like Little Pony or Minnie Mouse, for example.

Mulai dari membangunkan anak-anak, make sure they brush their teeth properly and take a shower, menyiapkan sarapan dan bekal ke sekolah, check their bags again and again,  sampai urusan pilih memilih baju yang akan dipakai.
Morning rituals can be overwhelming sometimes.

Untuk urusan baju, I have to admit, Obi can be very specific!
She know what she wants to wear :).
Well, I guess it's a short-lived idea for me because Obi already chooses what she likes ( or not) to wear.

Walaupun Obi lebih suka warna pink, tapi ungu is her second favorite color :).

But don't get me wrong..I can't force her to wear purple all the time. Well, I never do.
Even when we shop for clothes, she will come up with her own choices and the turn out to be colorful as well.

So, jangan bosan ya kalau saya upload di path OOTD Obi :). Then next, kaos Frozen dan rok toutou biru plus sepatu ungu :). Segala rupa, segala warna :)

mostly pink and purple yaaa :)

Kalau Bo, abangnya Obi yang baru saja resmi menjadi bocah berusia 9 tahun (I'm surely a big boy now, ma... mind you :)), sudah jauh lebih mandiri dan disiplin.
Way to gooo Bang.. Because it makes things easier for me to wake him up and he knows the drill. Sometimes I just have to get the clothes checked, make sure it fits the weather of the day. And that's it. He doesn't really pay attention to what he's wearing. As long as he gets his jeans, t-shirt, and a pair of socks, he's good.
Mungkin kalau anak laki-laki begitu ya, cuek bebek.

Cheeeers from Bo et Obi..

Kalau teman-teman bagaimana?
Do your kids choose their own wardrobe?
Or you get them prepared?

Just like a flower...

Just like a flower, she will forever bloom in my heart

My dearest mama :)

Love you, Mamaaaa ..
