Halloween Night 2017

Boo!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is way back couple weeks ago but I feel like I have to write it here in My Purple World :).

This Halloween, NYC was celebrating it in a somber mood.
On the very same day, the city has another terror attack in Lower Manhattan, causing casualities and another wave of anger towards this cowardly act of terror.

But the spirit was soaring high!
#NYCStrong and the annual NYC Halloween Parade continued.
We didn't joined it this year as it was school night and with the kids, I preferred staying near our safe neighborhood.  Besides, it would be our last Halloween here in NYC. Next year we will be back to Indonesia. I know, I know...we don't really celebrate Halloween back home because it is not part of our culture nor religion values, but we just enjoy the moment for fun. Nothing more :).

So there I was, running from the office at 6 PM and went straight home to meet my kids and my cousins who happened to be staying in our house. We all were so excited to see the Halloween and I have seen some houses were going all out for the ghostly decoration, including ours!

the scary doll I bring back home for Halloween :)

I took sometimes to dress my self up and got some make-up done.
I really wanted to do those cute mermaid make-up but I guess I was not that skilfull hahaha.

So I ended up having those teal and purplish eye shadow painted on my face and got the burgundy lipstick, my favorite as  always. Put on my purple wig and purple cape, like the one I have for the New York Comic Con and voile, I'm all set.

Obi just wanted to be the cat, just like last year, although I have got her a popcorn dress and a unicorn! While Bo was pretty much too 'cool' to dress up (Mom, I'm in IS already!)  and he just put that giant blue squid hat on his head and bundled up with his matching fleece jacket. Well, that would do :).

We got ourselves ready, walking around the neighborhood

Some of the decorations were indeed super serious!

I bet they have spent so much money on those giant jack-o-lantern,  flying dragons, skeleton bands, laughing witches, cemetery setup, the smoke and lighting, and more.
See some of the snaps I took during that night!
Creepily cool.
The kids love them for sure.

We ended up feeling hungry after walking around 10 blocks (so ambitious) and get ur pumpkin buckets filled. So we had our Halloween dinner at our favorite Greek Taverna. Perfect Halloween night indeed.

How was your Halloween?
What's your costumes?
Do you like spending money for the decorations and costumes as well?

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze

Fall is somehow identical with pumpkins. And Halloween as well as Jack O'Lantern.
I guess many of us were having a blast last Halloween, including carving this famous orange icon.

Speaking of Jack O'Lantern,  have you seen the Great Jack O'Lantern blaze

Yes, the blaze.
When you have around 7000 (indeed..seven thousands) Jack O'Lantern beautifully lit in a historical manor.
And it's in Tarry Town, where we have the famously haunted cemetery, Sleepy Hollow.

We've heard about it since the first time we arrived here in NYC, but we finally get a chance to do it this Fall. I have been eyeing the ticket since September but apparently I was too late to get it for October. This event is so popular that we only manage to get the slots we want on the third week of November.

our ticket
The show is held in Van Cortland Manor, one of the historical spots along the Hudson Valley. Historic Hudson Valley is the NGO hosting the event and they surely make sure that this annual event become a memorable one.

The ticket is $25 per adult and $20 per kids (3-17 year old) during weekend, and $20 per adult and $16 per kids (3-17 year old) during weekdays.

We arrived at 7.35 PM, 5 minutes late from our designated time but it was okay. We got the parking spot and couldn't wait to see all those beautifully hand-crafted pumpkins. As the website said, there are around 7000 pumpkins are being displayed.

As we strolled around the main street called Pumpkin Promenade, we were awed by the ambience of the manor.  Bo et Obi just couldn't help shouting in excitement while looking at all those pumpkins. Some are scary, some are funny..they even have the Obama face carved on it!

We walked through the path and stopped at the Pumpkin Zee Bridge. Amazingly, we also saw a giant Sea Serpent there..all made of pumpkins!

But the most beautiful in is the  Pumpkin Planetarium.
It's soooo beautiful. Colors are changing while we walked under the stars.
Pumpkin stars!

As we continued our walk, we saw more incredible statues and figures made of pumpkins, including several type of dinosaurs from Jurrasic Park, giant spider webs, pumpkin stamps,
and grandfather clock in on of the corners. I also love to see the elaborate Celtic knot carvings which are very detailed.

We finished the trip by taking more pictures with pumpkins and bought some souvenirs.

For sure, it's a great show and if you happen to be in NYC or the surrounding around Halloween time, this will be a great event that you and your family will enjoy.

WW: Boo! Enjoy Your Halloween

I know many of you had a blast this weekend for Halloween.

Kids are probably excited about the chocolate and candy, while us, adults, are pretty much into the costumes :).
And that goes with me as well LOL.

This year, it's a bit tricky that Halloween was celebrated on Monday.
School day the next day, so we only celebrated it shortly.

Till next Halloween!

Join us on (almost) Wordless Wednesday and have fun bloghopping :)
