Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends

flight from Jakarta to Bali
welcoming myself back to Bali.. excuse the dirty window :)

Another week gone by and we are getting closer to the end of 2020.

I have been focusing a lot on works as we have big events coming this December. The fact that the meetings will be conducted in hybrid mode,- in this case, a combination of offline and online event,- does not make things simpler or easier. We still have to prepare everything from scratch and the administrative arrangement as well as the substantive issues have to be thoroughly managed. At some point, it is much more tiring! Working from home makes us work around the clock somehow. But I have set my boundaries and I make sure I don't work overtime so it will affect my healthy and my wellbeing. Do you also have similar situation with regards to Work from Home?

The kids have been continuing their online classes and they have their tests again. December will give a break to many of us, particularly heading to the end of the year. You can smell the holiday season in the air already! Frankly I look forward to it and hope that I can benefit from the extra holidays provided by the Government in lieu of the usual holiday that we are supposed to get during Idul Fitri or Eid el-Fitr in May during the beginning of the pandemic. But I fear that others will have similar plans and people will flock in many tourist destinations. So much for having a safe and peaceful holiday. Well, we'll see about it.

Welcome to Bali
we might go back to Bali again..

Last week, right after Bali, I visited Bandung, the capital city of West Java, for works. Bandung is always fun indeed. We have so many lovely memories in this city.

It was just me and my hubby so we stayed for 3 days there. It's good to walk down some memory lanes but since it's still the pandemic, we didn't really go out that much. We just enjoyed our time in Hilton Bandung as much as we could.

We tried one of the famous culinary spots in Bandung, Se'i Sapi Lamalera. Well, this food is originally coming from East Nusa Tenggara but this smoked beef has won people's heart even as far as West Java. My hubby enjoyed it very much and I did too. And that's one of the perks of visiting Bandung, never ending culinary experience!

WW: Hunting Endek and Songket Bali, Balinese Traditional Fabrics

Songket Bali, Balinese Traditional Fabrics
Songket Bali, Balinese Traditional Fabrics

One of my long-time passions is collecting Wastra Nusantara or Indonesian traditional fabrics.

I have been collection various kain or clothes/fabrics from many parts of the country. Be it Tapis Lampung from my beloved hometown Lampung, or Tais from East Nusa Tenggara  and Ulos from North Sumatra. Not to mention Songket Palembang and Brongsong from South Sumatra to Sarung Donggala from Palu and tenun Lombok.

one of the traditional Endek Bali

As you have probably known, Indonesia is bestowed with amazing arrays of cultural beauty. One of them is reflected in the incredible patterns, colors and shapes of Indonesian traditional fabrics. Every province, every tribe, every area has its own unique traditional clothes. All of them are lovely indeed. That is why I have been smitten since the very first time I laid my eyes on those wastra nusantara  and when I could actually afford them. Some of these kain or fabrics cost you quite a lot as well and require proper treatment.

So when I get a chance to visit some store in Bali selling tenun and songket Bali as well as Endek Bali, I just couldn't help but buying them and adding my collection. I can say I have a soft spot for it. So I managed to get 1 hand-made songket Bali in purple, 2 embroidery kamen Bali, and 6 pieces of tenun Endek Bali. Enough damage for one short visit to the store lol.

And here's what I have and what I enjoy while picking up some of my favorites.

Warung Cuci Mata, Kuta, Bali with Bali Local Guides

Warung Cuci Mata, Kuta, Bali Indonesia
Warung Cuci Mata, Kuta, Bali Indonesia

Coming back to Bali after quite sometimes really thrilled me.

Since the pandemic started roughly in March in Indonesia, I haven't flown anywhere, be it domestic or international flights. For the benefit of us all, all traveling and gathering were cancelled and/or reschedule. Many countries have implemented lock down policy or 14-day quarantine for foreign travelers.  Indonesia is applying similar policy as well.

But as we move on and implement 'new normal' approach during the pandemic which still lasts till now, we start traveling and attending meetings in small scale. Of course under very strict health protocol. In Indonesia, we are obliged to submit non-reactive rapid test or negative swab test result before flying. We also need to download e-HAC or electronic Health Alert Card application on our phone so that the Ministry of Healthy can have proper tracking of us in case there is a spread of COVID-19 from one of our trips. I guess I will share some details about new way of traveling in Indonesia later on separate post.

Long story short, I visited Bali again in the middle of October. It was the first time ever since March 2020. Usually, by the end of the year, I would have visited Bali 3-4 times, for meetings as well as short break with my munchkins. But of course that was before the pandemic. I never thought I could go back to Bali this soon but I was super happy indeed.

I stayed in Ubud (read: The Royal Pita Maha Resort, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia) for three days before I moved to Kuta area and shared in Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort. While I stayed here, I made an appointment with some friends from Bali Local Guides,- Jean, Angga, Okta and Irwin. I was super excited as we haven't met in persons before although we have met in so many virtual meet-ups. Jean and I even join some Whatsapp groups together.

So on my last night in Bali (I stayed for 5 days and 4 nights), we planned to meet near the Sheraton Hotel In Kuta. Actually, there is a big mall next to the hotel where we initially planned to meet but since the pandemic, many places close at 8 PM. That's why we decided to look for the place near the area and voilaa... we found Warung Cuci Mata

Warung Cuci Mata, Kuta, Bali Indonesia
welcome to Warung Cuci Mata

It is not so far from Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort and Beachwalk mall, it is very so very convenient to those staying in or visiting the area.

It is situated by the street and you won't miss it.  It has benches and bean bags as well as booths of food vendors. There are various food being offered here,  a mix of traditional, Balinese food as well as hype, most-wanted food and munchies.

One of the menus

I tried Nasi kuning campur Bali with ayam betutu (It's Balinese way of marinating and cooking chicken and duck, using Indonesian traditional herbs,
super good and spicy), as well as sate telor puyuh or the quail eggs satay, bihun goreng or fried vermicelli, and sambal goreng tempe or the spicy fried tempe, the famous soy bean cake. We also ordered Korean cheese and garlic bread, grilled sausage and churros. All of them are yummy indeed.

The Cheese fries... yuuum

The price is manageable and friendly, like around 2oK Rupiah for a complete set of Nasi Bali and french fries for 15K Rupiah or USD 1. We still have more menu as well here such as fajita and kebab. We all enjoyed our order and loved them all.

Angga, Irwin and Okta from Bali Local Guides

The place is mask - mandatory and you have to clean your hands before entering and temperature checked. Seats are placed in safe distance. The five of us were sitting in one corner with disinfected desks and chairs.

Let's play..

We had so much fun chatting and exchanges gifts. Not to forget taking tons of pictures, including in the playground area which is pretty much Instagramable and cute. The five of us holding various banners and signs from Google Local Guides and posed. Click.. we got series of photos in this very spot.

When we came here, there was a live band playing. Lovely indeed, although it didn't stay that long like it used to be. The place was packed but safely distance from one another. We used our masks all the time, expect while eating and drinking. So I guess this place is highly recommended as it is safe, clean, has lovely menu with friendly price, and open air as well.

Thank you so much Jean, Angga, Irwin et Okta for making our short but sweet rendezvous so enjoyable and memorable as well.

I came here after the malls and many restaurants in Kuta, Bali, closed. I know it's a bit sad to see Kuta this deserted, knowing that this place is famous for its vibes and 24-hour vibrant communities. But during the pandemic, most places close at 8 PM. Hope seen everything will be back to normal and we can again travel as well as gather with family and friends.

Meanwhile, stay safe, happy and healthy, wherever you are!

Welcome (back) to Bali!

BALI again? Indeed!

Bali.. never ceases to amaze me. No matter how many times I have been here, I can't stop exploring every beautiful part of this island. Don't get me wrong. I'm not just promoting it but once you have set foot in their remarkable island, you will be smitten instantly by its beauty. Well, who wouldn't? When you can enjoy the fresh air under the brilliant blue sky and plunge to the turquoise water, you will certainly feel so blessed in this life. Not to mention the utterly friendliness of the the Balinese, who never forget to smile and greet you.

This time, Nusa Dua is where I stayed and I can't tell you how excited I am to go back here again. Nusa Dua is a paradise indeed and the fact that its location is quite secluded from the rest of Kuta makes this are so tranquil and peaceful. We have meetings at this place and later on, Bali Democracy Forum, the annual high - level dialog on democracy will be held here as well.

Many places in Bali are now ready to welcome everyone again with new health protocol. The principles of Cleanliness, Health, Safety Environment for all are dully implemented. I sincerely hope Bali is opening up soon for foreigners as well so you can get the same excitement as I.
