Wonderful Wednesday with Oh My Heartsie Girls

Can you believe it's August already?
I know..
It's really astonishing to see how time flies.

And August is my favorite month. My birthday is coming up :)
But in the beginning of the month,  we bid farewell to many of my colleagues who have finished their assignments in NYC. On Sunday and Monday, we practically stayed in JFK airport for that.

Such a bitter sweet moment, as we have spent so much time working together it the last 3 years but they are also excited to go home and be ready for the next adventures :). All the best, dear friends, and till we meet again.

On the last days of July, we have so many gatherings as well. We have the farewell party with friends from the UN and Indonesian communities here in NYC, we also have ASEAN Family Day. For sure, it all involved fun time, great friends and fantastic food.

But now, let's PARTY, people :)

Sate Ayam - Indonesian Chicken Satay

Chicken satay, anyone?

Perhaps, one of the most popular Indonesian food that people, including expatriates, love is sate ayam or chicken satay.

Those living or spending some times in Indonesia will instantly realize how seriously popular this dish is as they can easily find it anywhere. Be it in the big restaurants, special satay corners or even street vendors and those using wheel charts or gerobak and come to your house directly. With those high-pitched calling, sate sate, the satay vendors will make sure that their presence is well-known so that satay lovers can enjoy delicious plate of satay, usually accompanied by a bowl of steamed rice.

Back home, we commonly have the choices of chicken or lamb. With peanut sauce or sweet soy sauce. With the liver or the skin :). Again, using the same ingredients, we can easily find sop kambing or lamb soup sold together.

As satay is traditionally charcoal-grilled, you can order the cruncy or well-done one, or medium. How I miss those street vendors :).

Here in NYC, it's relatively easy to find chicken satay in Indonesia Restaurants around the city. But as #summerisON and our grill is waiting, amidst the hot weather, I try to make it at home. Apparently it's easy and managable.

Wanna try?
Let's give it a go...

some of the ingredients :)

Ingredients:

Breast chicken - 500gr, cut in cubes
Vegetable oil - 2 spoonful
Sweet soy sauce - 2 spoonful or as desired
Coriander - ground or use the powder
Garlic - ground or use the powder
Salt

Skewers - as needed

For the sauce:

Peanut - fried and ground for authentic flavor, or you can easily use peanut butter
Vegetable oil
Sweet soy sauce
Palm sugar
Salt
Chili
Shalot - thinly sliced
Garlic - ground

How to cook

First, we marinate the chicken. Mix the cubed chicken and sweet soy sauce, veggie oil, coriander, garlic and salt. Leave it for about 15 minutes. Don't do it too long as the sweet soy sauce will turn the color of the chicken meat.

Once done, arrange the chicken meat in the skewers.
Prepare the grill and cook the satay as you like, medium or well-done. Don't forget to toss it around to make sure that it's well-cooked evenly.

For the sauce, we have two options. Peanut sauce or sweet soy been sauce. For the peanut sauce, if you use fresh fried peanuts, ground them well first then add water to make it like tick sauce. Then in a pan, heat 1 spoonful of vegetable oil, sauté shalot, ground garlic and chili, then add the tick peanut sauce, salt, sugar and a bit of sweet soy sauce.Mix it well and cook it in low heat to avoid burning.

If you prefer kecap or sweet soy sauce, it will be a lot easier to prepare it because you only need to mix the sweet soy sauce, chopped onion, tomatoes and and chili as you desire.

Once the satay is well cooked, add the sauce on top of it and eat it with a bowl of warm steam rice.

Yuuuum!

Hope you enjoy it as much as we do :).

Selamat makan.

enjoy...

Rockefeller Center in Summer

I haven't really shown you NYC this summer, have I?
I guess, like in many corners of the States, the weather is not really friendly as it's soaring up to more than 100 degree F or around 40 degree C. Even for us, Indonesians, it's too warm, if not too hot.

But summer is always packed with wonderful outdoor activities, colorful decorations and beautiful skies.

Lately we have been strolling around the Rockefeller Center. As always, enjoying its intricate details in the garden, changed beautifully every season.

And how I love what I see in Rockefeller Center this summer!
A giant purple dragonfly made of beautiful flowers.
In purple.. My favorite color :).
Let's take a closer look at them.

super cute dragonfly

slightly bigger..

the cooling pond

Last spring, this corner was packed with beautiful tulips. In December, we have angels smiling at us while we were chilling in the garden. This summer, these  colorful dragonflies really steal everyone's attention.

So, if you get a chance to stroll around this area, don't miss the chance to enjoy Rockefeller Center and take pictures.

I stopped there after enjoying free Citi summer concert with a special guest of Celine Dion.
I know, Celine Dion :).
And the concert was free.

lining up since 4.30 in the morning :)

Although I lined up since 4.30 in the morning to get the spot, it was a lovely morning 'exercise for me and Celine Dion lovers. I practically grow up with her songs, all those lovely hits and upbeat tracks, as well as her famous balads. I only managed to see her from afar (apparently people were lining up since 10 PM the night before >_<), but I was happy to sing along with her that morning :). Not bad for a free concert.

We also spend so much time in Astoria Park lately. Morning, noon and night. Not sunrise but a few sunset.

I gotta to admit I accompany my son, Bo, catching some Pokemons. Amidst so many controversies over this game, we both enjoy our bonding time walking around the park and having fun catching those digital monsters. We walk a lot.. Almost 2 km per day, so that we can hatch the eggs as well :). But for sure, I won't miss the chance to capture the beauty of our surroundings.

So, how do you enjoy your summer?
You have some free concerts around your place?
Do play pokemon as well?

Coldplay - A Head Full of Dreams Tour 2016

"Here's a little button of love and surprise bracelet for you, courtesy of Coldplay..." Shouted a nice bald man with a black t-shirt who greeted us on the gate of Metlife Stadium.

I looked at my hubby's face and we both broke huge grins.

We are going to watch Coldplay, LIVE!
Coldplay comes to New York City!
Yaaaay...

******

One of the concerts that my hubby and I are waiting for, Coldplay - Head Full of Dreams Tour 2016, is totally awesome.

we got the ticket :)

Since last December 2015, we had been eyeing this concert. I have to admit that For this time, my hubby agreed to come along. Remember I had a blast on Beyonce's - Lemonade 2016 concert last May? Read the story I went there with my friends. For that concert,  my hubby was not as eager as me, but it didn't take long for him to say yes for Coldplay.

So, we got the ticket and months later, the day is coming!

We had the show on Saturday, July 16.
Rain or shine, baby...whatever happens, the concert is indeed on.
You can tell how excited we both are!
Before we got married, and in our first couple of years of marriage, Udi and I loved to go to concerts.
Coldplay, here we comeeeee :)
As it was held in Metlife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, we managed to drive there with our friends, 7 in total, including one bebe :).

courtesy of Coldplay...
Metlife was filling up fast.
And I'm not surprised if the concert was sold out.
That huge stadium was packed.
We can feel the vibe, the love...the enthusiasm, delight.
The uplifting spirit that makes my hubby and I happily grinned almost all night long.

As the opening, we have Foxes and Alessia Cara.
As new comers, they're good.
They surely got the attention of the audience although the stadium was not full yet.
Really enjoy Cara's hits, Here :).

We managed to have our quick dinner, if' not just snack :), of hot dogs and chips. Super healthy yeah >_< but it was just for that night. That one special night.
While waiting for the concert, we enjoyed the glittering sky as the sun set.

Then, at around 9.30, our surprise bracelet lit up.
Beautifully.
Coldplay is here...yaaaaaay.
And the concert started.

the second song, Yellow :)

And nothing else I remembered but singing along with Chris, my hubby and thousands of people, old and young, in the stadium.

Holding hands with Udi, we sang all night long on top of our lungs,
What a delightful feeling!

If only you could see the roaring cheers as our bracelet lighted up and the music intro echoed all over the stadium paired with uber-cool visual effects on those giant screens on the stage.

Opening with a bang, fire works and great light show, A Head full of Dream opened the concert that night, followed by Yellow, one of my favorite tracks from Coldplay.

Then the whole night was lit up with colorful light shows, coming from our cool bracelets, as well as the top-notch laser shows from the stage. I forgot to count how many hits they played but I remembered vividly sang along on "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, the Scientists, and Paradise. Cool clips with Beyonce were shown when "Hymn for the Weekend" was played. Then we enjoyed Clocks, Viva la Vida, Charlie Brown and A Sky Full of Stars.

Chris was 'chatting' with us, his fans as well, in the middle of the concert. Introducing the band and spoke more about how he enjoyed NYC and the series of concert they will have in the US.

Then the music continued, even as they changed the stages.

I think it was three times when they moved around and performed more songs that night.
They also sang a special request from instagram.

I didn't want this concert to end :).
I didn't want to stop singing.
I didn't want to go home.

But of course, all the good things have to come to an end.
So, thank you very much, Coldplay, for such an unforgettable night.

Hope to see you around....soon :).

New York City, #stillsingingalong
