NY Now and Indonesian Pavillion

Have you heard of NY Now?
Some of you have I supposed.

NY Now is a very special exhibition indeed.
Gathering leading associations in various industries and market partners, this show attracts many incredible suppliers as well as wholesale buyers from all over the world. Showcasing handmade, home, lifestyle and artisan creations, NY Now is definitely a valuable and rewarding event for those looking for versatile, global market for home, lifestyle, gifts and more. Truly a creative hub with breathtaking, authentic designs and great products offered.

As stated in its guidelines,"This Market is for the Trade only, individuals must document their direct, professional Trade affiliation to be admited." On-site sale and delivery of merchandise is strictly prohibited and all orders must be shipped. Para pembeli pun diminta mendaftar terlebih dahulu, sehingga kredibilitas mereka pun dapat dicek dan terjaga. Tidak heran kalau NY Now dipenuhi banyak peminat, baik suplier maupun pembeli.

tasnya lucu yaaa :)
I sincerely hope they will have a successful event indeed.

Pokoknya mupeng berat deh.

I just love this colorful cherry trees :)

some of the lovely home product for you to enjoy :)

Other booths also offered various products and creative designs. Starting from dining ware to body lotions, from sofa to pinata. Everything looks cute to me :).
I really enjoy those cute and colorful packaging as well.

I just can't get enough of it :)
So, what do you think about NY Now?
There will be another round this summer, I guess it will be in August.
I hope we will have more Indonesian suppliers coming this time.
I just can't  wait to see that again :).

Dadar Gulung - Indonesian Pancake with Sweet Coconut Filling

Time for more Indonesian recipe here.
I know I should bring you something sweet and pink for the upcoming celebration of love. But, since nothing pink is within reach, I hope the yummy greeny pancakes a la Indonesian will do the trick.

Here come dadar gulung.
Or, if I can freely translate it, the Indonesian pancake with sweet coconut filling.

Aaah, jadi kangen Kota Sepang :).

simple snack for your leisure time...

Cara membuatnya pun mudah lho. Kita coba sama-sama yuk.

Here are the ingredients needed:

For the pancake:

1 Egg
250 gr Flour
Milk or coconut oil for mixing. The original recipe uses coconut milk but I prefer milk for a lighter taste.
Pandan essence - if desired.
Salt

For the filling:
Grated coconut
Palm sugar
Salt

love the sweet filling :)

How to cook:

First, we get the filling ready. Mix the grated coconut with crushed palm sugar. Put it in a pan, add some water and boil it slowly until everything is well mixed. Once ready, set it aside.

For the pandan essence, you can definitely use the instant one. Otherwise, we can use the fresh pandan leaves. Soak the leaves in the water and squeeze the leaves to get the essence as well as its exquisite fragrance.

Then now we need to prepare for the pancakes. Mix egg, flour, milk/coconut milk and a pinch of salt like a regular pancake mix. After that, prepare it in a frying pan. Make it thin and wide enough to be filled with sweet coconut filling.

Take one pancake, then put 1 spoonful of sweet coconut filling. Roll it and fold the right and left sides to the middle before neatly roll it to the end. And that's it, dadar gulung is ready.

So easy to make, right. And I guess we can make a little adjustment and turn the pancake pink as well.

Cara membuatnya pun mudah.
And voila, dadar gulung pun siap dinikmati :)

Happy cooking :)

Winter Blue Sky

After the storm, NYC is rather nice and warm. At least no more sub zero temperature, although today we have wet  snow shower again.

We managed to walk every morning to school this week and this is what we captured along the road.

And winter blue sky is beautiful :).

blue sky...

We walked under the Long Island Railway Road (LIRR) on the way home.
And I found this lovely corner. Love it :)

under the railroad..

look at all those branches...

World Cancer Day 2016 at the United Nations

World Cancer Day is celebrated every February 4 since 2005.
Well, perhaps celebrate is not really the word.
We mark the day as the World Cancer Day and perhaps, without trying to be so bitter, nothing is to celebrate once you have or being touched by cancer in various ways.

But for sure, the spirit to fight cancer should be celebrated, in a way that we should take all necessary actions and changes to fight it.

And the United Nations is surely taking its part in our global fight against cancer.
Right on the D-day, February 4, an event with the theme "Towards a Cervical Cancer Free World" was held to mark this important day. Every Woman Every Child, Cervical Cancer Action, as well as the Permanent Mission of the US and Zambia sponsored this.

We have a special screening of the 'Lady Ganga' movie, and inspiring documentary about a 45-year-old single mom who decided to break the world record of paddle boarding in Ganges river after being diagnosed with late stage cervical cancer.

"Lady Ganga" is the story of Michele Baldwin, who, despite the fact that she was diagnosed with late stage cervical cancer, decided to do something incredible. She decided to break the world record paddle boarding the Ganges River.

All is documented as she wanted to raise awareness about cervical cancer. About the importance of early detection. About the need to have access to HPV vaccine, which causes this deadly but preventable disease.

Very inspiring indeed.

And I cried like a river watching it.

Seeing her undying spirit. And commitment to help others avoiding the same situation as her. Her movie, screened in many places, including some remote areas and villages, has brought awareness to more women about the importance of pre-screening for us. Simple pap-smear procedures can save life.

Lady Ganga
Google it.
Or you can directly find it in YouTube.
And you can watch it here as well :)

The movie is available for all to see.
So that together, we can spread the words. We can fight cancer.

Audrey Baldwin, on the right side, is Michele Baldwin's daughter, who continues her mom's global campaign for cervical cancer and HPV vaccination

Cervical Cancer, as statistics show, has been one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in low- and  middle-income countries. When we talked about the numbers, it reached approximately 250,000 women annually. Per year.
That's a huge number indeed.
And we can do something together to help improve this situation.

What can we do to help improve this situation?
A lot.
A lot that we can do to help fight cancer.

Take action. Inspire. Lead a healthy lifestyle and be a great example. Support those fighting and living with cancer. Speak out, spread the right information. Show love. Take early detection. Propose policy changes related to access to cancer care. Work with others in mobilizing support. Support those returning to work after cancer treatment. Share your story. And many others..

One thing for sure, there are 4 facts you need to know about cancer.

1. Cancer KILLS more than HIV/AIDS, Malaria and tubercolosis, even when we combine all three diseases.

2. More than one third of cancer is PREVENTABLE by observing healthy lifestyle (balance diet, physical activity, weight control, no smoking and no alcohol)

3. More than one third of cancer can be cured through EARLY DETECTION.

4. The numbers of people suffered from cancer will continue to increase if we don't take any PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

You see, 4 basic facts that we cannot ignore and for sure together we can do something to fight it. One of the simple things we all can do here is sharing.
Sharing our story.
Sharing my story.
My fights, my tears, my spirit, my faith.

Let me tell you a little story....
Sharing is caring indeed.

Hopes and supports are spread through your story

So, don't hesitate. Help us spread hopes, spirit and faith.
Through our story, we might be able to inspire others to take good care of their health and to take preventive measures needed to avoid cancer.
Remember, early detection is our best defense.
Don't let cancer ruin your life.

WE CAN. I CAN
