Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

To all wonderful mothers and mothers-to-be out there.
We have been working hard since day one so I guess we all deserve to have a little break to celebrate this warm, wonderful feeling of being a mom or thanking your mom for everything she has done to us.

I know this is a bit late but I still feel like sharing what my kids have given me in this very special ocassion.

For me, mother's day this year is a bit tricky.
I had to travel to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for work.
7.30 AM flight with lay over, surely it was tiring.
But, what bothered me most was that because I had to leave New York City right on mother's day.

Surely Bo et Obi protested but I couldn't do much as the trip has been arranged by the UN.

Nevertheless, we managed to have a pre-celebration of Mother's day and here's what my kids gave me :)

my smiley girl :0

Can't wait to see it blooms

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day :)

***

Such a long title I have here!

Hello again..
It's been quite sometimes since the last time I share the Frakarsas' favorite recipes here in My Purple World.

As always, I am more than happy to share all yummy Indonesian recipes that I cook in my Astoria kitchen.

So, are you ready for another yummy Indonesian food?
This week I have another favorite dish of my family, sambal goreng tempe dan kentang or spicy crispy fried tempe and potatoes. I know it's a long name but we just simply don't have the translation for that in English.

To those who have seen or tried some of my recipes here in my blog might be familiar with tempe or soybean cake already.

There are many ways to cook tempe and I love this sambel goreng because besides its delicious taste, I can also cook them in bulk and save them. The preparation might take some times but once you have everything ready, cooking it only takes 5 minutes.

Afterwards, I only need a bowl of steamed rice or a plate of fresh salad and veggies to eat them.

Let's cook then :).

Ingredients

Tempe - cut into small, thin stick
Potatoes - cut into small, thin stick

Shallot - thinly sliced
Jãlapeño- thinly sliced, if you like it hot.

Spices to ground:
Onion - half and chopped
Shallots - chopped Chilies - 3-4, or less as desired
Tamarind - 3-4 pieces
Palm sugar - 1 piece
Salt and pepper - as desired
Galangal - 1 piece, pressed
How to cook:

First, we deep fry tempe and potatoes then set them aside.

Then sauté the thinly sliced shallots and jãlapeño, put the ground spice all together. Cook it for a while and mix the deep fried tempe and potatoes and that's it. Yup.. That's it. You have your spicy deep fried tempe and potatoes, sambal goreng tempe dan kentang ready :).

easy steps to cook it..
Eat it with your hot steamed white or brown rice, or sprinkle it over your salad plate.
Hope you like it and enjoooy..

Staying at Best Western Plus Québec City, Canada

Whenever we go traveling, finding hotel or accommodation that will suit our family best is always be on top of our priorities.

The view from our room

Usually, my kids always sweetly request for warm breakfast and swimming pool whenever we go out on the road. Well, it's not always the case as sometimes we don't even have time for a leisure moment by the pool because of the limited time we have or simply because we are too tired after exploring one city or traveling from one to another :).

That's why, selagi bisa menemukan hotel oke yang kolam renangnya asyik, insya Allah Bo et Obi will love it!

And our choice in the first city of the our Spring Break road trip 2017 is Best Western Plus Centre-Ville Québec City.

Arriving in the middle of the night and amidst the heavy rain, we were greeted with smile at the front desk. Exactly what we needed after more than 8 hours on the road.

Check-in process was fast and easy, so we could directly get our room key and had a good night sleep.

our bed

We got two double beds room for 4 people and the beds are comfy, so are the pillows.

The room is equipped with facilities such as flat screen TV, coffee maker, toiletries, ironing board, and safety box. And one important thing, free wifi! :)

The hotel is only 7-10 minutes drive from the old town and other attractions, so perfect for me and my family.

As my kids requested, the hotel has indoor pool as well.
It is not that big but it's enough for us and it has spa, towel and some lounging chairs.
So we're good :).

enjooooy :)

It has fitness center and business center, should you need one.

Right across the main entrance, we found beautiful mural and we surely took some poses there.

With only USD 69 or CAD 94.23 (before tax), this property is a great and affordable choice for you who would visit Quebec.

Highly recommended!

As I have shared before, Québec City is a beautiful city to explore.

Rich in history and truly reminds me of Europe, particularly France, Québec City is manageable to explore it on foot. The people is friendly and we really love the Old Town of Québec City, so many interesting landmarks and architecture you can enjoy.

Too bad we only had 1 day and when we were there, the weather was not very friendly as it was raining all day long, cold and windy. Even that didn't stop us from exploring the old town, enjoying plaines d'Abraham, le jardin Jeanne d'Arc and Chatéau Frontenac and Terrase Dufferin. Old town is also packed with lovely restaurants, cafes and ice cream shops! Read the complete story here at In Love with Quebec City.

Till next story :)!
