I was so excited :).

By the time we prepared for this event, we got super excited as this is going to be thevery first time ever we have Indonesian street festival.
If you remeber, we had Pesta Rakyat @NYC last year and you can read the story here.
We have similar concept but this time we held it on the street!
I was so overtaken by meetings and other events that I didn't realized that the time has come for this first ever Indonesian Street Festival in NYC.

Held on the 68th st between Madison and 5th Avenue, New York City, this street festival was conducted right in front of the Consulate General of Indonesia in NYC. 

The opening :)

It is conducted on the ocassion of the 70th anniversary of Indonesia, which we celebrated last August 17th. And it was officially opened by the Indonesian Consul General for NYC, Mr. Ghafur Dharmaputra.

And we welcome everyone to come and  explore the beauty of my beloved country, Indonesia.

It is indeed fulled with non-stop Indonesian traditional performances, quizzes, fashion shows, culinary experience and free batik and calligraphy workshops. We even have a cool doorprize of return air ticket to Indonesia - NYC. Super cool :).

And the fashion show was cool as well, showcasing the many beautiful Indonesian traditional costumes.

We opened the street festival  with our national anthem, Indonesia Raya, sung full spiritly by most of us there...

And we got the streets full of vendors of Indonesian culinary heaven! 
From lalampa to combro, from nasi tutug oncom to jengkol balado, from sate padang to gulai tunjang. From es teler to strong Indonesian coffee ;).

Let alone all those cookies, munchies, gorengan and moreeee ;).

Peringatan 70 Tahun Kemerdekaan Indonesia di NYC

Pagi itu saya bangun dengan badan remuk.

Setelah sepuluh hari seseruan di road trip, melewati 7 negara bagian di Amerika Serikat dengan perjalanan non-stop terakhir selama 12 jam dari Savannah, Georgia, menuju New York, tidak heran kalau badan saya pun 'menjerit' protes.

Tapi, hari itu istimewa.

17 Agustus 2015.

70 tahun sudah negeri tercintaku bebas dari penjajahan.

Dan ini kali kedua saya melewati hari spesial ini di NYC.

Tahun lalu, saya tidak bisa mengikuti rangkaian perayaannya karena tanggal 14 Agustus 2014 saya menjalani mastektomi. Tanggal 16 Agustus baru pulang ke rumah dan kondisi saya drop pasca operasi besar.

Karena itu, tahun ini saya tidak menyia-nyiakan kesempatan untuk mengikuti rangkaian upacara peringatan HUT RI ke-70 yang diselenggarakan di Konsulat Jenderal RI di New York.

Pagi itu kami bergegas.. 

Saya dan Bo yang akan menghadiri upacara, karena Rudi, yang sukses menyetir sepanjang road trip dan juga Obi, masih keletihan karena kami baru tiba di New York tanggal 17 Agustus pukul 1.30 dini hari.

Badan letih tidak begitu terasa karena saya asyik menyiapkan kebaya merah dan kain Tapis ungu kesayangan saya. Sementara untuk Bo, kemeja batik motif Papua ungu muda juga sudah rapi disiapkan.

Untungnya, my munchkin mau mendrop kami di KJRI sehingga saya tidak bingung berkebaya ria naik subway, walaupun saya sebenernya sudah siap hahahaha. Kapan lagi coba pakai kebaya dan bertapis ria naik subway ;).

Akhirnya, setelah tiba di KJRI, banyak warga dan diaspora Indonesia di New York yang telah hadir.

Upacara pun dimulai tepat pukul 9.50 AM, 10 menit sebelum detik-detik Proklamasi. Upacara dilaksanakan di Ruang Pancasila, yang lumayan penuh dengan para peserta. Ketika upacara, peserta sudah diinformasikan bahwa yang bisa mengambil foto hanya fotografer resmi KJRI. Dan ini penting untuk memastikan khidmatnya  acara.

Saat “Indonesia Raya” berkumandang, dada rasa gemuruh dengan semangat dan cinta yang meluap. Penuh semangat menyanyikan lagu kebangsaan ini sekaligus menundukkan kepala sebagai tanda hormat kepada Merah Putih. 

Dan ketika waktu aubade menyanyikan lagu Tanah Air, kontan air mata menggenang karena rasa rindu tanah air. Luar biasa memang Ibu Soed, barusan kata sederhana dari lubuk hati membuat siapa saja yang mendengar atau menyanyikannya terbawa perasaan. Saya tidak sendirian menitikkan air mata... Karena banyak teman-teman yang merasakan hal serupa.

Senang, haru dan bangga bisa menjadi warga negara Indonesia yang senantiasa mengibarkan semangat merah putih, di mana pun berada.

Dan hari itu, Senin, bukanlah hari libur di AS, tapi lebih  dari 200 orang memadati Ruang Pancasila untuk hadir dalam peringatan ini. 

Selain para pimpinan dan staf KJRI, kami perwakilan dari Perutusan Tetap Republik Indonesia untuk PBB di New York (PTRI) pun hadir, termasuk Wakil Tetap RI untuk PBB, Duta Besar Desra Percaya dan Ibu Diana Mawarsari Percaya. 

Peserta lainnya yang hadir antara lain wakil dari Indonesian Banker’s Club, juga Permias dan Pelajar Indonesia di New York dan sekitarnya, perwakilan dari IDN Tri-state,  Perwakrin, dan banyak organisasi masyarakat lainnya. 

Peringatan 70 Tahun Kemerdekaan Indonesia di NYC memang ditunggu-tunggu :)

Pokoknya seruuuu ;).

Tema yang diangkat tahun ini adalah “Satu Tekad Berjuta Karya: Gerakan Nasional Ayo Kerja pada 70 Tahun Indonesia merdeka”. Semoga tema ini bisa menjadi bahan bakar pemicu semangat untuk terus berkarya.

Upacara selesai setelah kurang lebih 20 menit dan kemudian diikuti dengan pemotongan tumpeng yang lalu diberikan para perwakilan sesepuh Indonesia di New York sebagai bentuk apresiasi atas jasa-jasa mereka selama ini.

Is that all? No...

Setelah upacara selesai, serangkaian sesi foto bersama Kepala Perwakilan Instansi Pemerintah di New York beserta dengan masyarakat Indonesia yang hadir pun dilakukan sebelum kita semua menikmati jamuan makan bersama yang telah disediakan.

Dan istimewanya lagi, saya ketemu dengan Lutfi, adik kandung Emak Gaoel  yang super kondang itu ;), yang memang menjadi salah satu staf lokal di KJRI NY. Setelah lebih dari 1 tahun, akhirnya ketemu juga kami ;)..

Dan minggu depan, rangkaian kegiatan olah raga serta street fair di NYC akan kita lakukan untuk mempromosikan Indonesia. Ditungguuuu ya ceritanya ;).

Yang pasti, semangat merah putih akan selalu berkobar dalam dada.
Peringatan 70 Tahun Kemerdekaan Indonesia di NYC kali ini memang seru.

Magical Birthday at Disney Magic Kingdom Orlando #2

And the magic continues ;).

Here's the Magical Birthday at Disney Magic Kingdom Orlando #2 :)

As I have shared here before, we stayed almost 12 hours in the park. And even with that we missed the fireworks. Too bad but it's a sign that we have to come back again to Disney Land ;p.

Well, of the 6 lands we have here at the Magic Kingdom, we continued our adventure to Tomorrowland.

As the name indicated, the attractions here are pretty much related to the future. 

Alot to choose from here... From Space Mountain rollercoaster, to Tomorrowland Speedway and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. 

We also had fun with Stitch from Lilo and Stitch cartoon series, followed by cooling down under the shades while traveling with TomorrowLand Transit Authority PeopleMover.

Happy with Tomorrowland, we crossed the park and headed back to Fantasyland. Here we have many attractions we love. Especially Obi ;).

So we continued with Under the Sea Journey and Ariel's Groto 

Next is 'It's a small world' boat tour..

Don't miss this legendary attraction.

Where you can have a lovely air-coned boat tour around the globe.

I loveee this ride :).. And the theme song kinda stick in my head ;p.

And the Enchanted Tales with Belle is another interesting one, as the kids (and us, adults) can directly take part in an interactive play with Belle, the famous Lumiere and most of the characters from Beauty and the Beast ;).

Bo got a role as Maurice, Belle's father, while Obi became the Little Cup.

At the end of the show, all the casts got free bookmarks from Belle, yaaay..

Here we have many more to try.. Like Mad Tea Party, the many adventure of Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo the flying elephant and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

And I have to say that Fantasyland is indeed my favorite land in the kingdom.
Everything is like popping out of those bedtime stories books, with beautiful houses, big windows even people with costumes.

Again, FastPass is a huge help as it saves you from lining up too long. With Fp, we only need to decide 3 favorite rides, choose the time available, and stick to the time window. As simple as that.

We still have 3 lands to go and tons of pictures to share ;).
