Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends

Happy Waitangi Day..

February here is cold and windy, although we are in the middle of summer down here in New Zealand.

Last week, we celebrated Waitangi Day, the day the Treaty of Waitingi was signed between the Maori and the representative of the British Crown and marked the history of the establishment of New Zealand. It was celebrated on January 7th, so we actually had a long weekend.

Pastel kentang panggang, anyone?

Although we originally planned to travel around, particularly to the coastal areas, the weather didn't permit as it was so windy and rainy. All day long. So we stayed at home and just went out to get some groceries in the middle of the rainy day. I felt sad but nothing much we could do. So we just stayed home and cooked a lot.

sushi with beef teriyaki for lunch

I managed to make sushi, bitterballen, baked potatoes, grilled salmon, and more. Well, I have to admit we ate a lot during the holiday. Although we have been planning to go out and have more adventures, in the end we stayed at home and spend some family time together. Hopefully next week we get the chance to enjoy summer in NZ more.

WW: Strolling Around New Regent Street, Christchurch, New Zealand

Strolling Around New Regent Street, Christchurch, New Zealand

Hi everyone.

I hope everyone is safe, happy and healthy wherever you are. I know Omicron is rampantly lingering and even in Indonesia, my home country, some of my family members are contracted by it and have to stay in isolation. Again, please remain vigilant and make sure to observe the health protocol.

Anyway, I would like to share some  short stories and photos from my last adventures in Christchurch. Being the second most populated city in New Zealand after Auckland, Christchurch has a lot to offer. After taking tram city tour in Christchurch and incredible culinary experience in Riverside market Christchurch, let's join me on the other side of the city.

Welcome to New Regent Street

This time, I will take you all strolling around New Regent Street, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Being the central part of the city, New Regent precinct offers many unique shops, boutiques and cafes that become major attractions for tourists and visitors.  I strolled around and checked cute shops and eateries, including book shops, record store, opticians, souvenir and local artists. I know why this pedestrian mall is becoming people's favorite. Moreover, the pastel - dominated Spanish architectures dotting the area makes the street becomes highly "Instagramable.'

Meet my newly acquainted friend :)

the lovely ceramics dotting the shops along New Regent St.

One of the cafes that I stopped by in this area is Belle, cafe and micro roastery

I really love its interior design, lovely services they offer, and the scones. I tried their flat white, cheese scones and the ice cream.  As it was raining cats and dogs during our visit, we stayed inside then got to the terrace to get fresh air. While sipping my coffee and munching my scones, I saw the legendary tram passing through. Well, here are some photos I took from the cafe.

Love all the colors!

Fancy the painting?

My take - away cup..

So, will you explore this lovely precinct?
I bet you will enjoy strolling around and shop some of  the locally made items or grabbing your favorite food and beverages.

Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends

Here comes February!

Many associate this month as the month of love and I can see love is in the air. For sure, we are in love with the lovely summer we have here in New Zealand! The blue sky, the flowing water, the clean air, the colorful field of flowers and more.. Our love to nature will definitely keep us and the earth going. Let's keep it that way and that's one way of showing what true love is.

School time starts now..

In the beginning of February, the kids start their classes as well. Different from Indonesia and the US, the academic year starts in February after summer. As Bo goes to Wellington College at Year 11, he gets a lot of preparation for the upcoming year. Uniforms, school supplies, lunch boxes, tumblers, bus cards and all the nitty gritty of school needs are piling up as Obi also starts her class at the same time.

The school starts at 8.50 AM and as they go to different school, we really have to manage the time in the morning to ensure nobody gets late. I have to admit, after enjoying the break since November, we need to adjust all these morning routines. But luckily, the kids are super excited so they do wake up early and get themselves organized. They wake up at 6.30, take a bath, get their lunch boxes and fruits ready (no canteen during COVID-19), and leave home. Sometimes, mama is the one who is late LOL. Well, I am happy that so far things work well for all of us. Wish us luck ya..

And now, we are happy to have you join us each week and hope you enjoy our features to inspire you and to enjoy new ideas. We have so many talented bloggers it is hard to to choose but this week we added a couple more this week, and if you need more inspiration check out Last Weeks Party there were so many great blogs that visited, and tons of Valentine Ideas and Recipes.

WW: El Matador, Argentinian Restaurant in Wellington

El Matador, Argentinian Restaurant in Wellington

Join me on my culinary adventure here in the coolest little capital in the world, Wellington.

This time. I will take you to El Matador, Argentinian Restaurant, located in the hip Cuba Street, Wellington, New Zealand. I guess this place will be perfect to take your loved ones in special occasions or even for a lovely dinner out.

El Matador has long been famous for its Argentinian grill, as it is a cafe, Asador Grill and Bar. Obviously, since Argentinian food is pretty much dominated by the grilled meat, this place is famous for its steak.

You can definitely have others as well like burgers, lamb chops, venison, prawns, fish, squid, octopus, mussels and more.

As for the drinks, they have various choices ranging from the alcoholic and non-alcoholic ones, including tea and some hot drinks.

Want to peep on the menu? Here you go!

And the ambience is also lovely! I really love its industrial settings with 'old world' touch and big, rustic posters and prints. I really enjoy it.

When we came here, we ordered their famous smoked lamb loin, fugazzeta rellena (which is packed with cheese like we love it!), as well as the steak and burger. I have to say the beef is delicious as well as the fresh salad and fries. Everything blends well in colorful plates that we have.

Let's check out some photos I took during my dinner in this lovely place.

I really love their fresh salad and baked potatoes

I have to say that we really love this place. The food is incredible, the ambience is fun, the plating is lovely and everything is just so enjoyable. Come and visit this place if you happen to be in the city.

Enjoying Christchurch Tram City Tour

A visit to Christchurch, one the biggest city in the South Island of New Zealand, will not be complete without taking the tramway.

Enjoying Christchurch Tram City Tour
Enjoying Christchurch Tram City Tour

I have been enjoying tramway and cable cars whenever I can find them. So on my last visit to Christchurch in December 2021,  I took the chance to enjoy the trip together with the team, headed by Ambassador Tantowi Yahya, to enjoy Christchurch Tram City Tour. This is obviously one of the landmarks of the city and of people's favorite too.

We went to the Tram station and buy the ticket which costs you NZD 30 per adults and up to 3 kids can come for free. Additional kids will have to pay for NZD 5.

Since we visited during the pandemic, we followed the health protocol by scanning the QR code, wearing masks, cleaning our hands frequently, and keeping the safe distance.

the details of the heritage tram

Once the tram arrived we hopped on and took our seats. It didn't take long to wait until the tram started to move. We were so excited indeed.

My Ambassador waiting for the tram

There are many spots you can enjoy while taking this Tram City Tour and since it is hop - on - hop - off system, you can definitely stop in one of the places and hop on again for the next destination. During our trip, it was raining cats and dogs so we chose to stay inside the tram all the way from the beginning till the end of the tour.

so, where are we going to stop now?

The tram stops at 17 spots, including the Canterbury Museum and Botanic Gardens, The Cathedral, the Riverside Market, Art Center and New Regent Street, which is packed with wonderful cafes, stores and eateries. So many choices to stop by and you will definitely enjoy the trip.

After the trip for about 40 minutes, we were back to the station again and decided to go to the nearby cafe, waiting for the rain to stop and getting ready for our next meeting.

So,
