Back home in Indonesia, I was an avid user of public transports, too, especially TransJakarta or Busway. Well, in fact, wherever I go, I always try to maximize the public transports.
Why do I love it?
Because of course, it's handy.
The routes have been carefully planned to ensure that they cover many places, those spots visited most by people. Especially those popular tourist spots here in NYC, including parks, museums and shopping centers (alriteee :) ). Most of the subway lines run every 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the hours. During rush hours we definitely have more.
And it's cheap.
Here in NYC, one trip costs you USD 2.75 as of 2015. It used to be USD 2.50 per trip. It allows us to make some transits using other modes of transportation as well, for example from subways to buses, within a certain period of time. I never notice it but I guess within 1 to 1.5 hour will be fine. Well, I guess I will share more posts on commuting with MTA here in NYC later.
So, with crazy traffic, extremely difficult (or expensive... You choose!) parking spots, and constant honking here and there, taking subways is indeed heaven. Well, at least for me :). There are times when they are not working properly or when accident happens, but it doesn't happen most of the time, so we're good.

Another thing I love from commuting is that it keeps me healthy for walking a lot and happy for seeing great landscape of the city.
Heading to Grand Central Station, Crysler Building is standing tall, greeting everyone before going down to the underground tunnel.
And I took one quick snap before catching my 7 train...
As we emerged from the underwater tunnel connecting Manhattan and Queens, a lovely city landscape welcomes us. This time with a huge sign of Silvercup Studio (where they shot scenes of Sex and the City series, among others ;) ), and Empire State Building afar.

Then, getting off the train, RFK Bridge was elegantly posed under the setting sun and the blue sky.
Do you like taking public transport as well?
Join us on Skywatch Friday and enjoy blue sky from many parts of the world..

DeleteHere in Portland, OR I take our light rail train to work every day. Much better than fighting the traffic. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! :)
ReplyDeletelikewise...here traffic is crazy sometimes :)..thanks for visiting me back..
DeleteI hate public transportation, but sometimes it's not worth it to pay for parking.
ReplyDeletewell, I hate the parking fee, so I took public transport :)
DeleteI am not a fan of public transportation. Riding with strangers for long periods of time always makes me anxious. We do have a bus system in our town, but it doesn't come out to my area, but I'd still prefer to use our car if it did.
ReplyDeleteIf I could, I would drive more as well..but commuting between manhattan - Queens can be tiring and expensive if you drive your car...
DeleteParking spots...I hate to fight for a parking spots. Nowadays, I am soooo super lazy to go to a mall or anywhere that required me to drive around to find a parking spot. If not necessary I won't go. Overseas, for example Singapore, I love commuting in public transportation like MRT or bus..or I love just do it on foot. But Jakarta?? Oh noooooooo (so stressful to just think about it lol).
ReplyDeleteHahahaha...I was thinking the same way at the beginning in Jakarta, but after a while, I manage to adjust myself with Busway and it was okay :)
Deletekeren2 fotonyaa.... kapan aku bisa ke sono, mbaa?? :D
ReplyDeleteKapan ayoo kapaaan :)...ditunggu kalau mau main ke sini :)
DeleteYou have an awesome life. I'm glad you share it with us :D
ReplyDeleteAamin mbaaa...you, too, have great stuff to share :)
Deletepublic transport sebetulnya bisa jadi menyenangkan. Karena irit dan gak bikin capek nyetir. Cuma ya gitu deh. Masih banyak public transport yang kurang nyaman di sini. Tapi gak tau kalau di US sana :)
ReplyDeletedi sini lumayan nyaman dan cepat. Yah, ada hiccupsnya juga, tapi jarang bermasalah sih...di jakarta aku masih mau mencoba Busway dengan segala kerempongannya :)
DeleteLovely NYC skyscapes. I too ride public transportation and am pleased my city has very good options. There are more problems from time to time and for workers it is more of a headache when that happens but overall I think it is very good. It gets better as the years go by and more routes are added. I don't like it though when they change my favourite routes and I have to catch 3 buses instead of one to go a shorter distance. Sigh. xx
ReplyDeleteI know...it's annoying indeed if you have to change so many times..
DeleteHere in Tulsa public transportation is terrible. I would hate to have to depend on it to get to work or anywhere else in town. I feel sorry for anybody who is forced to use it. I have never been to NYC but I've been to London and it is great to be able to go places without your car.
ReplyDeleteI hope it will soon get better in Tulsa...the one in NYC is very handy..
DeletePublic transportation masih jd favoritkuu... Secara itu yg paling murah, hihi...
ReplyDeleteaku juga suka koook mak...karena memang praktis...dan murah :)
DeleteI miss the public transit in Atlanta (one of the places I lived). Here in Omaha, Nebraska we only have buses. I just drive.
