The Celebration of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day and Indonesian Armed Forces

Hi everyone..

National Day or the celebration of our nation’s independence day is always be special. Commemorating the struggles of our ancestors and heroes, this day marks the new beginning in the life of the nation.

Ambassador Fientje Suebu with H.E. Deborah Geels from MFAT, Marja Lubeck, MP from Labour Party from Indonesian descent, and Defence Attache and spouse

For the celebration of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day and Indonesian Armed Forces this year, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia held a Diplomatic Reception on October 12th, 2022.

After postponing similar celebration for the last 2 years due to COVID-19 pandemic, this time we had been able to have a proper celebration.

After the flag - hoisting ceremony that we did on August 17th, this time we had the double celebration at New Zealand National Library in Thorndon, Wellington.

We invited around 200 guest and 150 people came and joined us that night. It was really a wonderful celebration showcasing our pride as a thriving country, surviving COVID-19 and continue to make progress in terms of economic development, infrastructures and political stability.

With Nusantara, another word to call our homeland Indonesia, as the theme, we presented a little journey to Indonesia that night. We changed the national library into Indonesian corners, with decorations from different parts of Indonesia adorning the hall we used.

Not to mention Indonesian delicacies such as kue lapis surabaya, kue lumpur, pastel and risol, as well as our signature rendang, sate ayam, gado - gado, vegetarian fried noodles, and fresh fruits. For our guests who drink alcohol, New Zealand wines and Indonesian beer, bir Bintang, were also available.

We also have Nasi Tumpeng, the famous coned yellow rice, presented to our Guest of Honour, Ambassador Deborah Geels, Deputy Secretary for Americas and Asians of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand. We also had free souvenir of Indonesian traditional woven syal for all our guests.

The night got even merrier with the performance of Tari Piring, a traditional dance from West Sumatera and a medley of Indonesian songs, like Apuse, Sinanggar Tulo, Cublak - cublak suweng, dan Sajojo. The opening dance was Isolo from Papua.

It was really a lovely night and here are some more photos we have from the celebration.

Lapis Surabaya, everyone..

Noken and Papuan arts and textile as part of the decoration

I was wearing my gold and purple Tapis Lampung, with kebaya sulam usus in the same colors. Good thing I bring the complete set of the Siger Lampung from home.

So, what do you think? We really have so much fun and hope we can have more engagement as well as exposure of Indonesian cultures in New Zealand.

Cheers.

Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World and Friends

Hello from Wellington

Another week of lovely, balmy weather and I hope spring in Wellington stays beautiful like this.

Welcome back and how's everything? I know many of my friends in western hemisphere starts enjoying Fall or autumn with the changing color, foliage, pumpkin soup or spice latte, Halloween and more!

one lovely painting at La Casa Bella Italia in Petone, Wellington

For us here in the southern hemisphere, spring is still in the air. I have been walking back and forth to the Royal Botanic Garden and the surrounding areas to enjoy the lovely sunny day. Not to forget strolling around the waterfront as well as Lambton Quay, where we have shops, cafes, and many interesting spots to visit. The sales are also tempting as well and I have to restrain myself from spending too much for unnecessary things that caught my attention. For sure, I have been enjoying the culinary experience in the City. This is certainly something that makes Wellington famous.

a little brekky, everyone?

WW: Auckland Harbour in the morning

Hi everyone..

I have been coming back to Auckland for more meetings and activities. In New Zealand, We have the biggest concentration of Indonesian diaspora here in the city so that we always have something going on here.

This time, I have some meetings with counterparts at the University of Auckland and Auckland University of Technology. Moreover, we had the celebration of Indonesian Language and Literature in Auckland as well, so that our team come back here ready for a lot of engagements.

In one of the mornings, we managed to explore the harbour part as we are looking for hearty breakfast.

The waterfront in Auckland is quite big. It also houses the Museum of Maritime. I haven’t got a chance to check out the museum but hopefully next time I will have ample time to do so.

I strolled around the Princes Wharf, where you can see Hilton Hotel and many restaurants, as well as the Eastern Viaduct and Viaduct Harbour.

We had our breakfast in this cute restaurant called Giraffe around the area.

I also managed to get some videos for my Youtube channel about this area. Check it out!

So do you like Auckland harbour area?

Such a lovely waterfront and I hope I can go back and explore more in this area.

Join us on (almost) Wordless Wednesday and have fun with the links.

Wonderful Wednesday with My Purple World and Friends

Welcome back and hope everyone is well.

I have been enjoying back pain this last days huhu.

I have issues with it for quite sometimes and I guess after all the events and traveling that I have done for the last month back to back, my back seems to complaint and start giving me jolting pain. Not nice at all but I went to my physiotherapist right away and I have been trying acupuncture as well. Hopefully it will work speedily as I have been in pain for quite some times and consuming pain killers in a long time is no good at all. Wish me luck, dear friends.

I guess I haven't shared the festivity of our Diplomatic Reception celebrating the 77th anniversary of Indonesia's independence as well as the National Armed Forces. We had the celebration held at the New Zealand National Library and what a night indeed.

We had Nusantara, another name for Indonesia, as theme and we have staff and the big family of the Embassy wearing traditional costumes from different parts of Indonesia. It was a memorable night indeed.

Happy to share more stories here and let’s have a Wonderful Wednesday with me, Oh My Heartsie Girls and Friends. Have fun with the link party, everyone!
