WW: Happy Batik Day 2021

Happy Batik Day, everyone.

Happy Batik Day
Happy Batik Day from indah nuria

Selamat Hari Batik

October 2nd has been declared as Batik day, since Batik, one of Indonesia's most celebrated traditional heritage, is recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity back in 2009. Since then, people's attention to Batik, be it from fellow Indonesians as well as foreigners, is exponentially increasing.

I myself has been a big fan and collector of Batik as well as other wastra nusantara since the last 15 years. I was so lucky that my mom and my grand parents collected them as well so I do have some ancient and rare collection of these precious fabrics.

Cintai karya bangsa yang luar biasa ini ♥️♥️♥️♥️

To me, Batik is a perfect example of the labour of love reflecting the vibrant cultures, undying creativity and flaming passion.

Ada warna - warni asa di dalamnya, yang sarat filosofi dan makna hidup.

Cinta INDONESIA, cinta BATIK ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ♥️๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ..

Nothing else to say but I am super proud to wear BATIK wherever I go.

It’s surely an incredible work of art, tangled with love, exquisite taste, everlasting colors, generation-to-generation wisdom and meaningful patterns, which teach you the deep-rooted lessons of life. Aaah.. who wouldn’t love and proud to wear Batik ๐Ÿ’œ

Here you will see many occasions when I, alone or together with bosses, friends & family, are so proud wearing my batik ๐Ÿฅฐ.

Plataran The Dharmawangsa, Heavenly Place for Authentic Indonesian Cuisine

I have always had a soft spot for traditional ambience and Indonesian cuisines.

While spending some time in my beloved Indonesia, I try to explore its amazing

If you are looking for a posh, authentic Indonesian restaurant elaborated with top-notch, high class interior design in rare wooden furnitures, batik and antiques, this is the place.

Welcome to Plataran at the Dharmawangsa.

If you are familiar with the Plataran restaurant, then let's see this one.

I have been a big fan of Plataran restaurant, be it in Menteng, Senayan and here in the Dharmawangsa. They are just simply awesome!

When we arrived, we parked in the side ways and walked in to the restaurant. As you step into the area, you can see the bold and intricate design of Javanese cultures, with the replicate of statues from the famous temple of Borobudur, wood carvings imitating Rumah Jawa or the Javanese traditional house and batik, beautifully coated on the floor. In short, I love the ambience, the interior design and of course the food! The price is of course a bit higher than the average but it is worth it. Being known as the provider of authentic Indonesian cuisine in an antique and traditional setting,

As you step in to the area, you are welcomed by rows of statues like the ones in famous temples. Then the warmth of wooden Java house is welcoming you as you sit inside. I simply love it! Well, who wouldn’t! Not to mention Batik, the original piece of high quality Batik, being coated on the floor! The food is exquisite! And authentic as well. I love soto buntut, rawon, asinan jakarta, gado - gado, bola - bola udang, dendeng batokok, and more. i love the salad and soup they have here. Some rice dishes are also wonderful. As foe tje drink, you have various choices as well. They have mushola, parking lot, and clean, artsy toilet. Well… highly recommended indeed and hope you get a chance to try the food here as well.

September is reaching the end.

I am so proud that we somehow managed to accomplish so many things in terms of work as well as personal schedules. For those who have been following my blog and my story, I am still in the middle of the preparation of my next assignments. So many things to do, so little time! Let alone the pandemic that keep us restrained in so many aspects.

Me at UNHQ at the UNGA in 2018

I do notice that whenever I have to embark on a new adventure (read: work assignment) in a new place, I keep jotting down many beautiful places in Indonesia that my family and I HAVE NOT yet visited or explored. Well, it's always like that, unfortunately. And it works both sides as well, I mean I feel like I have so much to do when I have to repack and head back home from the post I have abroad.

Semangat!

Now, Jakarta is in better condition in terms of COVID-19. We started to go to the mall using a specially-designed application showing the status of our vaccination and tests. In many malls, you can only get in if you have been vaccinated at least once. Well, it's a good 'filter' in a way to ensure people are not flocking in particular areas at particular time.

So now let me welcome you to this weeks party #278 since I started counting, we hope you enjoy the features, we are waiting for you to share from your blog! Please take a minute to introduce yourself, we'd love to get to know you, and comments are golden.

WW: Reminiscing of the Past - United Nations Headquarters New York City

"No Violence" sculpture welcoming you to the UN Headquarters in NYC

Hi everyone.

The High Level Week of United Nations General Assembly for its 76th session has started. And some of the world's attention are directed to the Big Apple, where the UN Headquarters is located. This year, the meetings were conducted in hybrid way, a combination of online platform, pre-recorded messages and physical presence at the UN General Assembly Hall. More than 100 head of states and/or governments have confirmed their presence in this august body, together with smaller entourage obviously. For sure, strict health protocol is fully observed at all times.

The view of Long Island City seen from the UNHQ building

Like last year, I didn't travel to New York City to attend the meetings as we have many restrictions due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, we continue to provide support from Jakarta and I have to admit, I do miss visiting the UNHQ in these crazy days.

There are times when we were constantly moving around and being mobile, exploring different corners of the UN and preparing meetings or anything that popped out. It was extremely exhausting but rewarding at the same time. I made so many friends, learnt tremendous amount of substantive issues and beneficial skills, particularly in negotiation and communication, and had the time of my life here.

So, now, I would like to rekindle my memories and share some of the snaps I took during the many sessions of UN General Assembly that I have attended so far, starting from 2014 - 2019.

Most of the photos I have here were taken during the special High Level Week session of the UN GA, where New York City, particularly the area around the UN and Midtown Manhattan, temporarily turns into a circus. It all was caused by the high-level security arrangement the US and the UN have in order to welcome and ensure the safety and the well-being of many prominent world leaders, including POTUS himself.

Some of the following pictures were taken from the UN Security Council, particularly when Indonesia was the President of the Security Council in May 2019. I was privileged to be part of the team here.

Then let me take you to the Indonesian Lounge in the UNHQ. Not many country's name was dubbed as the name of the lounge or the room in this building so I am super proud to take you here. Interested to know why it is named after my country? I wrote the story about Indonesian Lounge at the UN HQ here: Indonesian Lounge at the UN Headquarters.

And of course, the amazing art works and installations you can find around the area, be it inside or outside of the UNHQ building. The clear blue sky, the calming East River and astonishing city line are my favorite as well. Well, enjoy!
