Presentation of Letter of Credence of Ambassador Fientje Maritje Suebu

Presentation of Letter of Credence of Ambassador Fientje Maritje Suebu

One of the most important milestones in the beginning of an Ambassador's journey is the presentation of the Letter of Credence. This Credential is the result of Agrément, or the approval of the host country to receive new Head of Diplomatic Mission in that respected country. Without the Agrément, the new  Ambassador cannot come to the new assigned

Ambassador Fientje Maritje Suebu has been accredited to New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Nieu and the Cook Islands. After her arrival in New Zealand, through Christchurch, we had arranged the presentation of her Letter of Credence on February 2nd. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the event was postponed until February 22nd.

And what a beautiful day it was!

what a beautiful day indeed

The presentation of the Letter of Credence was scheduled to be done in the residence of the Governor-General of New Zealand located in Wellington. I was honored to be selected as one of the entourage of the Ambassador, together with our protocol staff and the Defence Attaché.

Ambassador Suebu and his spouse were inviting us to go together from her residence and we waited for the Crown Car to pick her and another protocol car for us. We left the residence and headed to the Governor - General's Residence where we were welcomed by the Elderies, as part of the traditional way of welcoming new guest, in this case,  Ambassador in the country. Too bad we didn't have the traditional Powhiri, the Maori unique way of welcoming guests in ceremony, which involve speeches, cultural performances, singing and hongiHongi is specifically unique, as it's a distinct way of greetings people by pressing their noses together. Well, thanks to COVID-19, this wonderful tradition has to put in halt.

So, as we arrived at the  Governor-General's residence, we were welcomed by the elders and the Ambassador and her spouse took pictures together the elders. Then we proceeded to the main room where the Governor-General and her entourages waited. We took our designated spot, continued with the proceedings where Ambassador delivered her speech, presented her Letter of Credence which was well received by Governor-General Rt. Honorable Dame Cindy Kiro, who, in return, delivered her short speech welcoming Ambassador Suebu and conveying messages for bolder relationship between Indonesia and New Zealand. After that, the Ambassador and Dame Kiro exchanged views and had some conversations before we concluded the ceremony and returned back to Ambassador's residence.

It was a short  ceremony yet meaningful. As the Ambassador was officially starting her days as the Head of Mission in Wellington, we had a little celebration as well. We gathered at Kafe Seroja and enjoyed nasi kuning, complete with Indonesian menu of black pepper beef, fried chicken, soup, ikan pepes, sambal and lalap, with asinan Bogor as dessert. What a glorious day indeed.

bless us all always..

Nasi Kuning komplit!

So, that's a little story about the Presentation of Letter of Credence of Ambassador Fientje Maritje Suebu, the Head of Mission for Indonesia in Wellington. Cheers!

WW: Hello, New Zealand

Kia Ora!

Finally, our journey to Wellington, New Zealand started.

We took off from Jakarta, flying to Christchurch through Singapore with Singapore Airlines, one of my favorite airlines.

After waiting for the approval from Border over Crossing authorities and teary eyes from our till-we-meet-again moments with dearest family and friends, we managed to board the flight on time to Singapore and had a brief transit there.

with my mom, niece, and aunties... missing my brothers and sister - in - law here. Hugs & love!

with Pak Direktur and my division at the office.. will miss you all terribly!

Christchurch is our entry point to New Zealand, which hopefully will be our home for the next 4 years. We will have 7-day quarantine here and hopefully all is well.

Along the way, we have been mesmerized by amazing view from above. Here are some of the snaps we took.

such a breathtaking view...

WW: Reminiscing of the Past - United Nations Headquarters New York City

"No Violence" sculpture welcoming you to the UN Headquarters in NYC

Hi everyone.

The High Level Week of United Nations General Assembly for its 76th session has started. And some of the world's attention are directed to the Big Apple, where the UN Headquarters is located. This year, the meetings were conducted in hybrid way, a combination of online platform, pre-recorded messages and physical presence at the UN General Assembly Hall. More than 100 head of states and/or governments have confirmed their presence in this august body, together with smaller entourage obviously. For sure, strict health protocol is fully observed at all times.

The view of Long Island City seen from the UNHQ building

Like last year, I didn't travel to New York City to attend the meetings as we have many restrictions due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, we continue to provide support from Jakarta and I have to admit, I do miss visiting the UNHQ in these crazy days.

There are times when we were constantly moving around and being mobile, exploring different corners of the UN and preparing meetings or anything that popped out. It was extremely exhausting but rewarding at the same time. I made so many friends, learnt tremendous amount of substantive issues and beneficial skills, particularly in negotiation and communication, and had the time of my life here.

So, now, I would like to rekindle my memories and share some of the snaps I took during the many sessions of UN General Assembly that I have attended so far, starting from 2014 - 2019.

Most of the photos I have here were taken during the special High Level Week session of the UN GA, where New York City, particularly the area around the UN and Midtown Manhattan, temporarily turns into a circus. It all was caused by the high-level security arrangement the US and the UN have in order to welcome and ensure the safety and the well-being of many prominent world leaders, including POTUS himself.

Some of the following pictures were taken from the UN Security Council, particularly when Indonesia was the President of the Security Council in May 2019. I was privileged to be part of the team here.

Then let me take you to the Indonesian Lounge in the UNHQ. Not many country's name was dubbed as the name of the lounge or the room in this building so I am super proud to take you here. Interested to know why it is named after my country? I wrote the story about Indonesian Lounge at the UN HQ here: Indonesian Lounge at the UN Headquarters.

And of course, the amazing art works and installations you can find around the area, be it inside or outside of the UNHQ building. The clear blue sky, the calming East River and astonishing city line are my favorite as well. Well, enjoy!
