WW: Welcome to Saint Lucia

So, here I am.
Away from home, but blessed to see another wonderful spot on earth.
Welcome to Saint Lucia, everyone.

Before we landed :)

Another work trip I have to one of this beautiful Caribbean island states  started with an eight-hour flight from NYC via Miami.
Super early in the morning, at 6 AM to be exact.

And for sure I got up at 4 AM and rushed to La Guardia Airport.

As soon as I arrived, we attended the meetings straight back-to-back at the Prime Minister’s residence and the airport lounge to meet the Minister for Foreign Affairs before she boarded to Martinique.

Then after that, we managed to enjoy Marigot Bay, where we stayed in St Lucia.
It’s a pretty bay and rather secluded, so perfect for some relaxing time.

At Capella Marigot Bay, St. Lucia

Let’s check out some photos, shall we?
Here's a sneak peak of Marigot Bay, St. Lucia.

So, welcome to St. Lucia! Will get back with more complete stories!
Perfect place for your holiday season indeed.

What Your Geography Teacher Didn't Tell You about the Caribbean...

The Caribbean is a place full of sun, sand and famously wild parties!  When you’re confined to a classroom and four walls, you may learn about this exotic location but you’ll never truly experience it.  That’s why  Agness and Cez from etramping.com have provided an informative list of facts that your Geography teacher may have missed. So, if you’re about to venture into this tropical destination, it’s worth taking a look at what’s below…

Where did the Giant Rodents go?
The Caribbean is actually a key area for biologists to study mammal extinction. Recently, evolutionary researchers found out that there’s a lost world of ancient mammals on the islands. Human settlements are thought to be the core reason as to why many creatures became extinct. Vampire bats and giant rodents are a few of the Caribbean fossils that have been found and there are continuous studies being carried out to unravel additional discoveries. Furthermore, the first settlers are said to have been Amerindian and would have hunted the mammals for food. When a habitat’s natural movement changes, something inside of it just switches. Sometimes, the environment just doesn’t know how to handle it and that’s where extinction plays its role.

You can drive into a Volcano
Yep, that’s right! In St Lucia you can actually drive into a volcano. This is the world’s only volcano that you can actually drive straight into, so it’s best to make the most of it! It’s known as the La Soufriere Drive-in and it takes you right through the crater. Despite the fact it is sleeping, it’s the Eastern Caribbean’s most active geothermal area.  Not often can you tell someone that you’ve actually taken a ride through a volcano so it’s definitely a cool feature of the island. Apparently, the volcanic mud there is said to have extra special healing effects. For instance, it can soothe bug bites and get rid of unwanted eczema.

Want to take a Taxi or an Ostrich?
In Curacao, you can visit the local Ostrich farm and meet a few furry friends. Now and then, they allow visitors to ride them as long as you have an allocated spot. The ride itself is rather comical as the bird bounces about the path. If you’re not into taking an Ostrich round the island, you could simply visit them and give them a few snacks. The large flightless birds are friendly but be warned. They have a ferocious front kick and can kill humans and potential predators in seconds. Despite their threatening skill set, these majestic and wonderful creatures are admired around the world.

A Mountain was named after Obama
Here’s an intriguing fact for you. Did you know that Ex-president Barack Obama actually had a mountain named after him in Antigua in 2009? With so many islands to choose from, the highest point of this island changed its name from ‘Boggy Peak’ to ‘Mount Obama’.  It can be climbed from the southern and northern side and is a popular trail. It’s an easy to moderate hike and if completed at a steady pace, it will take you around 1 to 3 hours. According to various sources, it’s said that Obama himself was very grateful to be named as the centre point of a National park.

Fancy some Iguana Soup?
If you’re feeling a little daring then the Caribbean iguana soup will suit your taste buds perfectly. It’s such a sought after dish that restaurants sell out of it in seconds. The consumption of this meat is traditional yet new laws have prohibited female iguanas from being used. An average bowl of the iguana soup will consist of meat, pepper, mint, onions and carrots. According to Caribbean folklore, this soup is said to enhance strength and promotes endurance. Plus, it’s also capable of curing a strong hangover. This is just one of the many exotic and cultural delicacies you can try.

 ‘Women Island’ exists
Isla Mujeres got its nickname ‘women island’ from the Spanish in the 16th century. When they set foot on the serene island, they noticed that there were several female figurines standing tall. Therefore, they gave the land this label and it has lived on ever since. You can find some gorgeous getaway spots here and beautiful Beloved Hotels. This particular island is known as a pure piece of paradise, carved by Gods. Another story which flows through Isla Mujeres is that it was home to a goddess named Ixchel for around 1000 years. With the tropical climate and hot weather, it’s clear to see why she made it her home.

Jamaica has healing waters

Located in St. Ann’s Bay, there’s a pool of water which can catch fire. Please be advised that it is not wise to try this out alone unless it has been prescribed by a legitimate doctor. The locals who surround the ‘fire water’ say that it contains a high concentration of sulphur. Those who dare can walk through the flaming pool and opt for fire massages. Historically, the water was discovered 80 years ago when a lady named Mehala Smith bathed in the water. As she rinsed herself, she tried to burn a wasp nest above. The light hit the surface of the pool and it caught alight.

There’s a Swimming pool in the middle of the Sea

The Nylon pool in Tobago is said to be full of rejuvenating powers. Despite the speculation, it’s not manmade and it’s only one metre deep. Surrounded by a sea of tranquillity, the nylon natural phenomenon was actually named by the British Princess Margaret in 1962 when she spent her honeymoon in Tobago. Locally, it’s described as a fountain of youth. Similar to the Jamaican fire pools, the water is meant to be magical. Perhaps this is something your Geography teacher informed you about with regards to the spectacular Caribbean landscape…

Wonderful Wednesday with Oh My Heartsie Girls

Another beautiful week we have here!

relaxing walk at Central Park..

Thanksgiving has been lovely as I got a great break with my dearest family, with a little shopping here in there. Well, my hubby really enjoyed the Black Friday and he started getting all those electronics we are going to bring back home next year. As for me, I'm happy with all those new dinnerware and bed sheets LOL.

But seriously, we had so much fun decorating the Turkey kit and just relaxed at home.
We went out to Central Park and it was beautiful.

Now, I am packing up my bags once again for last minute work trip to the Caribbean.

I feel sad as it was coincided with the PTO meeting where Obi will be awarded the Best Student of September 2017 and Bo's Parents and Teachers meeting.

WW: Fall is here to stay

Turtle Pond in one great day..

Having visited Central Park again and again to enjoy the breathtaking Fall scenery at this lung of the Big Apple.

The city I' in love with..

Let's jog...

We walked for about 4 miles that afternoon.
Such a beautiful Saturday with balmy weather.
No wonder so many people were out and enjoyed the day.
Took so many photos with my phone, even my kids were in good mood to pose for me.

Obi under the bridge near the reservoir

Bo posing for me..

This time, we started walking from the 86th St, at the Jacqueline Onassis Reservoir, down to Belvedere Castle and Bethesda fountain, my favorite.

And the beauty of Fall is so captivating indeed.

Cheers for purple and Fall lovers :)

The Amazing world of Dr. Seuss, Springfield, Connecticut

Oh the places you’ll go!
The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss, Springfield, Connecticut is indeed amazing.

"So, I'm going to pick-up the bike at Worcester." My hubby said that night, while we were having dinner.
"Where is it exactly? Still in New York?" I concentrated on my sashimi plate which was so good. I was thinking of getting more.
"No, it's almost three hours drive from here. It's in Massachusetts."
"What? That far?." I stopped dipping that piece of  salmon and paid more attention to my hubby.
"Yuuup...we'll stay overnight in one of the surrounding cities. Either Hartford in Connecticut or  Springfield in Massachusetts. They have Dr. Seuss museum in Springfield." He checked on the map at his phone. "Bo and Obi will love it", he added.
"I 'd love that, too! So, let's go. Get everybody ready! It will be our early Thanksgiving trip."
Springfield, here we come!

***

It was one cold weekend when we decided to drive to Worcester, stayed overnight in Hartford,CT and visited Dr. Seuss museum in Springfield, MA.

We booked the car and the hotel (thank God I have extra points to use in Starwood Group hotel) and packed our bags and some food for the trip. It would only be one night stay and already we planned so much including some swimming and trips to the museums.
I still have my mom here so it was a great opportunity to take her out and see more of the country as well.

When I head Springfield, my mind directly goes to the Simpsons place.

You know, the cartoon :).
But this city of Springfield is the one in Massachusetts, which happens to be the hometown of one of the most beloved kids-book authors, Dr. Seuss.

The Amazing world of Dr. Seuss.

That's the name of the place.
Familiar with Dr. Seuss and his books?
I do love him!
And so do my kids.
I have to admit I read those books as an adult.
Well, foreign books are expensive so I kind of getting to know his works a bit late.
But I love his books. I really do.
I have been teaching Obi, my daughter, how to read using One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish from Dr. Seuss.
Bo was enjoying the Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, Happy Birthday to You, ABCD, Oh the Places you'll Go, and more.
So, when we found out that Dr. Seuss' hometown is not too far, only approximately 3 hours drive from New York City, off we went!

indahnuria.com

We stayed the night at Hartford, Connecticut after visiting Yale, New Haven on Saturday and continued driving to Springfield, Massachusetts for about 20 minutes.
The museum opened at 11 AM on Sunday and we went directly here.
The ticket is USD 25 for adults, USD 16 for seniors, and USD 13 for kids.
And we can visit 5 museums with one ticket.
Amazing, right!

say hi to the Lorax :)

As we didn't really have much time, we first visited the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss.
Perfect choices indeed, as the place is very interesting.
It's like pages from the books.
Colorful and entertaining as well, with all those characters and quotes from the books.

Obi literally grew up with this :)

The amazing world of Dr. Seuss is uber awesome!
My kids, love it so much and so does mama Bo et Obi 😇😇😇
We got soooo excited when we met our fave, the Cat in the Hat :).

We are exploring the colorful world of the Cat in the Hat, the Lorax, Horton the elephant, Thing 1 and 2, Thidwick the big hearted moose, the Grinch who stole Christmas, Yertle the turtle and more  at Dr. Seuss’ hometown Springfield, Connecticut.

On the first floor, we have drawings and excerpts from the books, while the second floor has the exhibition about Dr. Seuss' stories and life.

Then we got out to Dr. Seuss’ National Memorial Sculpture Garden 💜

indahnuria.com

Say hi to all these famous characters from Dr. Seuss’ great books!

Dr. Seuss
Again, here we met the Cat in the Hat, the Lorax, Horton the elephant, Thing 1 and 2, Thidwick the big hearted moose, the Grinch, Yertle the turtle and more!
Those bronze sculptures are incredible.

The Grinch is here :)

Looking at the details, it feels like those characters just spring out of the books.
Well, for us, Dr. Seuss was not only telling us the children stories with his unique imagination, but there are so many important messages about love, life, friendship, respect, harmony, and more on each and every story.
And we are so blessed to have the opportunity to know that :).

So, what's your favorite Dr. Seuss' favorite character?
Do you like them as well?

Clear Blue Sky at Lovely Town of Hartford, Connecticut

How about clear blue sky at lovely town of Hartford, Connecticut?

Another wandering around with my family this Fall.
We briefly visited Hartford, Connecticut and had a nice walk near the Bushnell Park.
I took it as our pre-Thanksgiving trip.
You know how busy and crazy Thanksgiving break is, with many people are traveling at the same time or shopping at the same time at those shopping malls and factory outlets :).
So we learnt our lessons and decided to explore more cities in the surrounding before those hectic week.
And there we were... driving approximately 3 hours from NYC and arrived at this wonderful city of Hartford.

Fall is still here and it is beautiful although cold :).
As we arrived in the afternoon, we didn't really have much time before the sun set.
So we strolled around the Bushnell Park.

The Memorial Park at the Trinity Street near the Bushnell Park is beautiful.
The gate is standing tall elegantly, erected in honoring those who have fallen for the country.

Really love this gate!

Its famous carousel is also lovely.
Although my kids didn't manage to try it as they were sleeping after spending the whole morning at the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss in Springfield, Massachusetts.

I have always been a great fan of carousel.
So I was really enjoying the ride here :)

Will get back for more stories on our trip for sure :)
